Impaired driving charges dropped against former Halifax Mooseheads star
Charges against the Halifax Mooseheads' career points leader were dropped Friday after the Crown offered no evidence at trial. Jordan Dumais, who last suited up for the team a year ago, was charged after being pulled over by police in downtown Halifax at 2:20 a.m. AT on March 1, 2024. But on Friday, the Crown received word shortly before they were due in court that the investigating officer would not be attending. "As a result, the Crown determined that he could not proceed without the officer's testimony and offered no evidence," said Public Prosecution Service spokesperson Melissa Noonan in a statement. Dumais, now 21, is from the Montreal area. He was suspended from the Mooseheads for five games at the time the charge was filed. Defence lawyer Stan MacDonald entered a not-guilty plea on Dumais' behalf last July. He could not be reached for an interview. Dumais was a third-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022. He played for Team Canada at the 2024 world juniors in Sweden, but then underwent abdominal surgery in Columbus, Ohio, following the tournament. This season, Dumais played for the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League, scoring four goals and seven assists in 21 games for the Blue Jackets' farm team. In November 2023, Dumais broke the Mooseheads' franchise point record. He ended his four seasons with the Mooseheads with 325 points.

Stefan Matteau retires from professional hockey after a 13-year ride in NHL and AHL
Stefan Matteau (via Getty Images) Stefan Matteau, former Cleveland Monsters winger and first-round NHL draft choice, retired officially from professional hockey, marking the end of a 13-year career spent within the NHL, AHL, and abroad. Stefan Matteau, captain of the Cleveland Monsters this season, became a tough and dependable player in multiple leagues, dressing for the New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets, and beyond. Stefan Matteau hangs up skates following Cleveland Monsters captain tenure View this post on Instagram A post shared by ColorsTV (@colorstv) Chicagoan Stefan Matteau walked away from professional hockey after one season as an AHL Cleveland Monsters captain. He started playing hockey when he was drafted 29th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Draft. He contributed six goals and five assists for a total of 11 points through 92 National Hockey League contests. Most of Stefan Matteau's career was within the AHL, where he proved to be a consistent forward. He had 76 goals and 93 assists for a total of 169 points in 411 regular-season games. He was an asset for most AHL teams because he was experienced and versatile. Along with his North American background, Stefan Matteau competed abroad in the 2022–2023 season, dividing time between German Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) club ERC Ingolstadt and Swedish Hockey League (SHL) affiliate Linköping HC. That short stint abroad gave an international touch to an already eclectic hockey career. Career defined by determination and leadership While Stefan Matteau's NHL statistics won't leap off the page, his presence in several locker rooms and leadership were felt throughout his playing career. Matteau's retirement marks the end of a gritty and dignified career, one that, though never rooted in the limelight, warranted a steadfast commitment to the game. Though the Cleveland Monsters move forward into the future, it is without their grizzled captain, but in gratitude for what he provided the team. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Also read: Cleveland Monsters forward Owen Sillinger will miss the rest of the season after suffering a lower-body injury Stefan Matteau departs having worn an awful lot of jerseys and played an awful lot of parts—draft pick, NHL prospect, AHL veteran, foreign pro, and ultimately, team captain. Utica Comets GM trades son to Cleveland Monsters in exchange for future considerations
The Utica Comets, the AHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, traded defenseman Will MacKinnon to the Cleveland Monsters on Thursday. MacKinnon, 24, has no goals and four assists in 42 games this season. So going to the Columbus Blue Jackets' minor league affiliate doesn't appear to be a deal of any consequence. However, what makes this trade intriguing is that MacKinnon was traded by his father, Comets general manager Dan MacKinnon. Additionally, MacKinnon was dealt away for future considerations — which could mean he was traded for nothing in return. [Yahoo Fantasy Bracket Mayhem is back: Enter for a shot to win up to $50K] NEWS: Will MacKinnon has been traded to the Cleveland Monsters for Future for everything, Mack! — Utica Comets (@UticaComets) March 13, 2025 This appears to be one of the coldest examples of "sports is a business" adage. Could it be awkward between father and son if or when the MacKinnon gets together for family gatherings over the summer, or at Thanksgiving or Christmas? "Could you pass the gravy?""No, you get nothing, Dad! Just like when you traded me to Cleveland!" Yet as heartless as this transaction might seem, it's possible that Dan MacKinnon was doing his son a favor. Utica is last in the AHL's North Division at 23-26-4 and 14th in the Eastern Conference. The Comets will not be making the playoffs, even in a league where 23 of 32 teams qualify for the postseason. However, the Monsters are fourth in the North Division at 28-18-5 and ninth in the East, which puts them in playoff position. Will MacKinnon is moving on up, as far as postseason contention goes. Family gatherings, if they take place, could be pleasant after all. Even more so if beverages are sipped from the Calder Cup. In four professional seasons moving between the ECHL and AHL, MacKinnon has 11 goals and 31 points in 201 games. Prior to that, he played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire.
