The Record takes a look at the allies and enemies of murdered gangland king pins Eddie Lyons jnr and Ross Monaghan.
Today in the last of our four part series on the feuding Lyons and Daniel crime clans the Daily Record looks at the tangled web of allies and enemies of murdered gangland king pins Eddie Lyons jnr and Ross Monaghan.
Both men were shot dead by a mystery gunman on May 31 at Monaghans Bar, owned by Monaghan, in the Spanish holiday resort of Fuengirola prompting fears of further violence and retribution back home in Scotland..
At the time Lyons jnr was on a golfing holiday with friends from Dullatur Golf Club in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, and Lyons gang member Monaghan is believed to have been the main target of the Costa Del Sol killer.
A major investigation has also been launched by Spanish Police but today the person responsible for the two deaths remains at large.
Who killed Lyons and Monaghan remains a mystery but their list of enemies - and friends - will be a key part of the police investigation.
Eddie Lyons jnr
Eddie jnr is the son of Eddie Lyons snr who formerly ran the controversial Chirnsyde Community Initiative in Milton, Glasgow. The centre was closed in 2006 following the murder of Eddie jnr's cousin Michael Lyons at an MOT station in nearby Lambhill run by their uncle David Lyons.
Eddie jnr and younger brother Steven Lyons - alongwith Ross Monaghan - were both members of the infamous Club Boys group based at the centre. Eddie Lyons Jnr had been targeted twice by the Daniel family prior to his murder on May 31.
In April 2006 the crime figure survived a shooting attempt outside his home in Cumbernauld in Lanarkshire and again in November that year in Bellshill, Lanarkshire. Both he and Ross Monaghan were cleared in 2017 at Glasgow Sheriff Court of assaulting a man outside a pub in Bishopbriggs.
In the double assassination last month at Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola, Spain, Eddie jnr was shot first before the gunman turned his weapon on Ross Monaghan. The 46 year old Lyons family member had been on a golfing holiday with friends from Dullatur Golf Club in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, when the fatal Saturday night shooting took place.
Ross Monaghan
Monaghan, 43, first came to the attention of the police more than 20 years ago. At the time he was one of the notorious Club Boys - a group of young criminals working for the Lyons family - who based themselves at the Chirnsyde Community Initiative in Milton, Glasgow, run by Eddie Lyons snr.
The centre which received more than £1.4 million of public money was alleged at that time to be a front for organised crime. Monaghan first came to public attention when he stood trial at the High Court in Glasgow in 2012 for the murder of Daniel enforcer and family member Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll.
However Monaghan walked free after a judge ruled there was no case to answer. Carroll had been shot dead at point blank range while sitting in his Audi car outside an Asda supermarket in Robroyston, Glasgow in January 2010.
Seven years later Monaghan was shot and injured while dropping his daughter outside St George's Primary school in Penilee, Glasgow. After the shooting he moved to Fuengirola in Spain and opened his own bar Monaghans where he was murdered at the end of last month. It is believed that he, not Eddie Lyons jnr, was the main target of the gunman.
Enemies of Eddie Lyons jnr and Ross Monaghan
Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel: The 45 year old has been the target of several attacks in the past eight years as part of the long running feud with the Lyons. The most recent was in April at his luxury home in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, when the front door was set on fire. He was also left with horrific facial injuries after being attacked with knives and machetes by Lyons gang members in Glasgow in 2017. Properties of his mum Annette, uncle Norman Daniel and cousin Kelly 'Bo' Green have also been targeted in the past three months.
Francis 'Fraggle' Green: Green is the son of feared crime boss Jamie Daniel who died from cancer in 2016. In 2010 the 42 year old was one of the first on the scene following the murder of his brother-in-law Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll outside an Asda supermarket in Robroyston, Glasgow. Green later admitted in court eating the sim card from two phones he was carrying at the time. In 2017 a gunman opened fire on his home in Milton of Campsie, near Glasgow. A motor company in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, previously connected to Green, was set on fire in April.
Mark Richardson: A key associate of the Daniel family. The 38 year was jailed for eight years and nine months in 2018 for possession of a Glock handgun. He was said at the time to be part of the most sophisticated organised crime operation 'encountered' by Police Scotland that saw nine men jailed for a total of 87 years. The Edinburgh gangster was previously sentenced to ten years in 2010 following a £2million cocaine and heroin seizure by police.
Robert Daniel. Cousin of Steven Daniel: Two workers were attacked with a machete and seriously injured at a garage owned by Daniel in East Kilbride last month. However Daniel was believed to be the intended target. The 50 year old was shot and seriously injured in 2017 outside his home in Stepps, Glasgow as he reversed his car.
Zander Sutherland: The 36 year old is the son of late crime boss Jamie Daniel and younger brother of Fraggle. Zander was sentenced to 13 and half years in prison in 2016 for heroin dealing. Last year he fled to Norway while on leave from Caste Huntly open prison, near Dundee, after death threats. He was then extradited back to Scotland in December. Sutherland got an extra 10 months added to his sentence in April at Perth Sheriff Court.
Craig Gallagher. The 45 year old's carpet factory business in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, was set on fire in early April and video footage posted online featuring the song Firestarter by Prodigy. Gallagher, a long time Daniel associate, was jailed for 32 months in March after admitting an assault on Lyons gang members in Glasgow and being in possession of an offensive weapon.
Allies of Eddie Lyons jnr and Ross Monaghan
Daniel Kinahan: The 47 year old is head of the Irish Kinahan organised crime group now based in Dubai and one of the world's most wanted men. A bounty of $5 million has been put on his and other family members heads head by US Treasury officials for alleged drug trafficking. Has built up a close relationship with the Lyons family in recent years.
Ross McGill: The 31 year old former Rangers ultra and Union Bears leader is alleged to have orchestrated a recent series of fire bombings and other attacks on Daniel family members and associates from his base Dubai since March with information supplied to him by Lyons family members.
Eddie Lyons snr: The 67 year old father of Eddie Lyons jnr is the most senior member of the Lyons crime clan. In 2012 he was was ordered to hand over £75,000 of his assets after admitting a £259,000 mortgage fraud and having £150,000 of illicit earnings. Lyons snr first came to public attention in 2003 over his running of a community centre in Milton, Glasgow, alleged to have links to organised crime.
Steven Lyons: Younger brother of Eddie jnr. The 44 year old spends time between Spain and Dubai. He is said to have forged the current relationship with the Kinahan crime clan. Now seen as head of the Lyons family.
Robert Pickett: The long time Lyons associate was among six men jailed in 2019 for a total of 104 years for the attempted murders of five men from the Daniel crime clan including Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel. Pickett was also shot and seriously injured when two men murdered Lyons family member Michael Lyons at an MOT garage in Lambhill, Glasgow in 2006.
Robert Kelbie: The 41 year old convicted fraudster has survived three attempts on his life including two outside his home in Edinburgh and one outside a health club in the city. Kelbie has a long running feud with cocaine baron and Daniel ally Mark Richardson. They once fought in front of mourners after a funeral in the capital in 2016. In 2021 Kelbie helped to set up a gym on the Spanish island of Fuerteventura for MTK Global, a now defunct boxing promotion firm linked at the time to the Kinahan crime clan.
