Reign F Veronica Latsko (Achilles) to miss 2025 season

February 27 - Seattle Reign FC forward Veronica Latsko miss will the 2025 season due to a torn Achilles tendon. The Reign said Wednesday that Latsko will be placed on the season-ending injury list. Latsko was injured during a preseason match against Bay FC on Feb. 16 during the Coachella Valley Invitational at Indio, Calif. "We're absolutely gutted for Veronica," Seattle coach Laura Harvey said in a news release. "She has proven over her career to be resilient, diligent and hard working on the pitch, we know how much preparation she had put in for this season. "While this is a tough setback, we have no doubt she'll attack her recovery with the same determination and resilience she brings to the pitch every day. Our entire club will be behind her every step of the way." Latsko, 29, has 15 goals and seven assists in 108 regular-season NWSL matches with the Houston Dash (2018-19, 2021) and Seattle. She had three goals and one assist in 23 games (11 starts) last season. Seattle opens the regular season on March 15 against visiting NJ/NY Gotham FC.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Thorns forward Morgan Weaver will miss the upcoming National Women's Soccer League season because of a right knee injury. The Thorns announced Weaver's injury on Wednesday. Defenders Nicole Payne and Marie Muller were also put on the team's season-ending injury list. 'Unfortunately my knee never fully healed from last season's injury so I will be restarting the process of rehabbing my meniscus,' Weaver said in a post on Instagram. 'With that being said I will still be supporting Portland till the very end! I am not done yet and can't wait to be back to win another championship!' Weaver had surgery on her knee last May but returned to the Thorns in September. In January, she was invited to train with the U.S. women's national team. Weaver has played in 68 games since joining the Thorns in 2020, scoring 16 goals. Payne injured her knee in an exhibition game against Angel City at the Coachella Valley Invitational earlier this month, while Muller also sustained a knee injury while training with the German national team. ___ AP soccer:

INDIO, Calif. - The Coachella Valley Invitational kicked off day 1 of its National Women's Soccer League matches Sunday as Major League Soccer begins preseason match play. This event takes place from Feb. 1-22 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. This year is the second year that the Coachella Valley Invitational hosted men's and women's professional soccer preseason games. Angel City FC 2, Portland Thorns FC 1 San Diego Wave FC 0, Houston Dash 0 Seattle Reign FC 1, Bay FC 0 The 2025 Coachella Valley Invitational (CVI) is a three-week pre-season soccer event, which will host clubs from both Major League Soccer and the National Women's Soccer League at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Highlights from this year's Invitational include matches featuring 2024 MLS Cup Finalists LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls, as well as the first public match played by the MLS' newest team, San Diego FC. Fourteen clubs from Major League Soccer are competing in the event: Austin FC, LA Galaxy, LAFC, Chicago Fire FC, Charlotte FC, Minnesota United FC, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, San Diego FC, St. Louis CITY SC and Sporting Kansas City. And six teams from the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) will play: Angel City FC, Bay FC, Houston Dash, Portland Thorns, San Diego Wave FC, and Seattle Reign FC.
