Longhorns softball recruit named Gatorade National Player of the Year

Longhorns softball recruit named Gatorade National Player of the Year Longhorns recruit Hannah wells caps of here high school career with Gatorade National Player of the Year award After winning the first national championship in program history, Texas Longhorns softball is ready to defend its title. They will again have a talented roster next year that will get a boost from some of the nation's best recruits. That includes Hannah Wells, who was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year on Monday. As Coahoma High School won a state title, Wells impressed at the plate and on the mound. She finished the last season of her high school career with a 22-1 record. The future Longhorn struck out 258 batters and posted a 0.44 ERA. When Wells wasn't pitching, she posted a .602 batting average while driving in 75 runs. Before Monday, Wells already had an impressive resume. She is a five-time all-American who ranked in the top 10 in hitting and pitching nationally. She also earned the 2025 Max Preps Texas Player of the Year, according to Texas Athletics. For the Longhorns, Wells play over the last year has only created more excitement about what is in store for her college career. Wells is one of the seven recruits joining a championship-caliber roster. She is listed as the only pitcher in her class and could be a replacement for Mac Morgan, who just wrapped up her senior season. During her time as a Longhorn, Morgan posted a 2.47 ERA in 95 games. Like Wells, she held her own at the plate. Regardless of where Wells plays, she is expected to be an important piece. Her versatility should be an added benefit, as the Longhorns will be able to get her in the lineup in various ways. The Texas native's latest award provides a reminder of how good Wells is as he prepares for the next chapter of her college career. On a team that already includes catcher Reese Atwood and pitcher Teagan Kavan, Wells has the potential to be the next Longhorns star. Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.
