Burn ban issued for Sevier County, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Pittman Center, and Sevierville
SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Sevier County, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Pittman Center, and Sevierville have issued a burn ban until further notice. The burn ban was issued Thursday afternoon, amid dry conditions, exceptionally low relative humidity, forecasted high winds and very high fire danger, Sevier County EMA reported. Much of East Tennessee is under a high wind watch, with winds between 25 to 40 miles per hour and gusts of up to 80 miles per hour possible, until at least Friday evening. Sevier County residents hail firefighters who quickly contained 67-acre blaze During the burn ban, all outdoor burning is prohibited, including burning in barrels, outdoor wood-burning fire pits, and charcoal grills. Gas grills and gas fire pits are still permitted, a Sevier County Government spokesperson said. 'With leaves, limbs, and other debris having a tendency to pile up during the winter and fall, please take this time to prepare your homes and properties by removing this debris from around your house,' Gatlinburg Fire Chief Charlie Cole said. Sevier County residents and visitors are also encouraged to sign up for CodeRED safety alerts at or by downloading the CodeRED Mobile Alert app. Crews fought 200-acre wildfire in Caryville The burn ban comes just a day after firefighters contained a 67-acre fire in a grassy area just east of Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. Residents who lived near the fire praised firefighters for their quick response, who quickly contained the fire. Crews responding to 30-40 acre wildfire in Sevier County
SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Division of Forestry is responding to a wildfire in Sevier County, east of Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. The Division of Forestry's website states that the fire is in the area of Red Bank Circle. The road is located off of Pittman Center Road and is just outside of Sevierville city limits, according to Google Maps. Around 1:20 p.m., a spokesperson with the City of Sevierville said the fire is in a large grassy area and was initially estimated to be about 30 to 40 acres in size. He added that the fire is 90% contained.
