Suspect arrested after fatal hit-and-run in Hanover

A suspect has been arrested and charged after failing to remain when he fatally struck a woman. On June 11, 66-year-old Sheila Lamont died from her injuries after she was struck by a red Chrysler PT Cruiser on 7th Avenue near Hanover Park. The driver fled the scene, and the car was found destroyed by fire in the Municipality of Brockton. The suspect, 33-year-old Codie Bloom, was arrested on Thursday evening after he was located walking in Walkerton on McNabb Street. Bloom has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and fail to remain at a collision resulting in death and arson. His next scheduled court date is June 27 at the Walkerton Bail Court. This investigation remains active and ongoing.

On June 11, a 66-year-old woman was walking on 7th Avenue, near Hanover Park, when she was struck by red Chrysler PT Cruiser. The vehicle fled the scene of the crash. The victim, now identified as Sheila Lamont, was taken to the Hanover and District Hospital where she subsequently died from her injuries. (Source: Hanover Police) The driver was nowhere to be found. Police later identified the driver as Codie Bloom and shared the 33-year-old's image in the hopes someone would call in a tip. On June 19, Bloom was arrested. Hanover Police said he was picked up by Ontario Provincial Police while walking on McNabb Street in Walkerton. He's been charged with dangerous driving causing death, failing to remain at a collision resulting in death and arson. 'This investigation remains active and ongoing,' a media release said. 'Hanover Police investigators continue to track down leads and encourages those with information who have not yet spoken to police to come forward by calling 519-364-2411 or Crimestoppers of Grey Bruce at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).' Bloom remains in police custody.

On June 11, a 66-year-old woman was struck and killed by the driver of a red 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The vehicle fled from the scene of the crash. It was later found abandoned in a bush lot on Sideroad 25, near Morry's Trailer Sales. 'Those close to Bloom are reminded not to provide him any assistance in anyway as they could face criminal prosecution for being an accessory after the fact,' the release warned.
