MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- One person has been arrested after a crash Thursday night that left a Midland Police Department officer seriously injured.
According to a City spokesperson, around 10:45 pm on May 29, the MPD responded to a crash with serious bodily injuries in the 2400 block of W Wall Street and learned that another officer, whose marked patrol unit had been parked in the roadway with its emergency light activated, had been struck by another vehicle while he assisted with a minor crash. MPD said the officer was standing near the rear of his vehicle when a Ford F-250, operated by 24-year-old Cody Justin Garcia, of Lyford, Texas, crossed multiple lanes of traffic and struck both the officer and his patrol unit.
The police officer, whose name was not released, was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Garcia was also taken to the hospital for treatment for injuries he sustained in the crash.
MPD reported Garcia faces the following charges: intoxication assault causing serious bodily injuries to a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
