MLA urges Railways Ministry to ramp up infrastructure, train connectivity at Coimbatore Junction to sustain growth
Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has made a representation to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to ramp up infrastructure and train connectivity at Coimbatore Junction factoring in its third ranking by Southern Railway in terms of revenue generation.
Just two pit lines are inadequate for Coimbatore Junction; it requires the infrastructure and train connectivity to sustain the growth, the MLA said, making a case for developing two more stations - Coimbatore North and Podanur - with the required infrastructure and connectivity.
Ms. Vanathi also urged the Minister to prevail upon the Railway Board to approve the proposal for extension of (56801) Mayiladuthurai-Thanjavur train up to Coimbatore via Palani, Pollachi and Kinathukadavu.
Extension of train no. 56113 Coimbatore-Pollachi Express service up to Madurai will facilitate connectivity for passengers, the MLA said in her representation.
At Coimbatore North Railway Station, which is redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Scheme, there is an urgent need to build two island platforms with train maintenance facilities. Shifting of Goods Shed from this station to a suitable space readily available with Railways at Irugur will be purposeful.
