I-89 Exit 17 closed in Colchester nightly this week
COLCHESTER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – The I-89 northbound Exit-17 (U.S. Route 2) on-ramp will be closed nightly for multiple days this week, according to Vermont's Agency of Transportation, while the northbound Exit-17 off-ramp was already closed Sunday night.
This off-ramp in Colchester was closed from 7:00 p.m. Sunday until 6:00 a.m. the following morning, and it will continue to close nightly up to Friday, May 16. The on-ramp will also be closed from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m., but beginning Wednesday, May 14 up to Friday, May 16.
Even during daytime hours when the ramps are open, motorcyclists should be wary of uneven gravel surfaces. Other drivers should slow down, use caution, and pay attention while in the project area.
This closure is a part of the Colchester Exit 17 Project, which aims to improve 'the interchange at Interstate 89 (I-89) Exit 17 and the Chimney Corner intersection of U.S. Route 2 (U.S. 2) and U.S. Route 7 (U.S. 7).'
A detour will be put in place via Exit-18 in Georgia and U.S. Route 7 in Milton. Motorists familiar with the area are advised that the Exit-16 interchange remains open and can also be used as an alternative route.
