Traffic stop in Martin County leads to drug arrest and firearm seizure

MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Officials with the Martin County Sheriff's Office and the Williamston Police Department conducted a vehicle stop and took two men into custody. On Monday, March 24, 2025, at around 9:10 p.m., Deputy Cole Murphy attempted to stop a vehicle on US Hwy 64 near Bell Town Road. The vehicle soon came to stop after a brief pursuit, where a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of around 8 grams of crack cocaine, 2 ounces of marijuana, and Glock 9mm handgun. There were two suspects taken into custody. Darantaye Elijah Whitfield, 20, of Robersonville, NC. He was charged with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Misdemeanor Flee to Elude, Misdemeanor Failure to Stop for Blue Lights / Siren. He has a secured bond of $100,000. Jefton Jarquez Bynum, 24, of Aurora, NC. He was charged with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
