Int'l Day of Yoga celebrated with enthusiasm

1 2 3 Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts came alive on Saturday as hundreds gathered for vibrant and diverse celebrations to mark the 11th International Yoga Day. MP Captain Brijesh Chowta said yoga is one of the greatest gifts India has given to humanity across the world. At the International Yoga Day event organised at the Kudmul Ranga Rao town hall, he said, "Yoga is an excellent means to achieve a better way of life." DC Darshan HV said that yoga day is not limited to India alone but is observed in over 160 countries. "Yoga must become an integral part of our lifestyle," he said. A unique jala yoga session was organised at the city corporation swimming pool, which featured around 40 participants performing yoga in water. SM Shivaprakash, retired dean of College of Fisheries, wrote a postcard to Prime Minister Modi during the session to promote awareness about fitness and swimming. Indian Coast Guard (District HQ No. 3, Karnataka) organised mass yoga events at Mangala Stadium, Tannirbhavi Beach, Father Muller Stadium, and CGAE Mangaluru, attracting over 300 participants. The institute held a yoga camp from June 9 to 20, including a '30 Surya Namaskaras in 30 Minutes' challenge on June 19. A yoga session was also held at the domestic arrivals hall At Mangaluru International Airport. Instructors Kumar Shenoy and Skanda S Navada from Delampady yoga foundation guided stakeholders from CISF, airlines, customs, and ground-handling teams. A bootcamp was conducted from June 14 to 20, led by Kamala Gadde and Rajyotsava Awardee Gopalakrishna Delampady. The final session on Saturday was inaugurated by Dr NM Shareef, deputy director general and head, marine and coastal survey division, with 105 participants.
