Snowstorm cancels schools across New Brunswick
With Valentine's Day just a day away, love is in the air, but so is snow.
Light snow started Thursday morning New Brunswick, in the beginning of a winter storm that could bring as much as 25 centimetres of snow.
According to CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin, the storm is expected to bring heavy snow to the region, and in central and southern New Brunswick, that snow is expected to mix with ice pellets in the afternoon.
Periods of snow will continue into Thursday night, with ice pellets and freezing rain along the Fundy Coast.
The precipitation is expected to end overnight.
The storm is also bringing messy conditions to other parts of the country, including heavy snow, high winds and icy conditions to other Maritime regions.
All primary and secondary schools in the province closed in preparation for the storm early Thursday morning.
Some universities and colleges have also cancelled classes or closed their campuses because of the storm:
New Brunswick Community College has closed its Saint John, Saint Andrews, Woodstock and Miramichi campuses.
Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick has closed its Campbellton, Edmundston, Bathurst and Acadian Peninsula campuses. Classes have been moved online.
The New Brunswick College of Craft and Design is closed for the day and virtual classes will continue as scheduled.
The Mount Allison University campus will close at 4:30 p.m. AT, cancelling all evening classes, labs, events, and activities. The Jennings Dining Hall will remain open regular hours.
