Tory Lanez's alleged prison stabber claims self-defense, says rapper targeted him first
The man accused of stabbing Tory Lanez at a California prison this month has said he believed the rapper wanted him dead and that he was only acting out of self-defense. Santino Casio, 42, has been identified as the man who stabbed Lanez multiple times at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on the morning of May 12. The 32-year-old rapper was stabbed a total of 14 times — in his back, torso, the back of his head, and on the left side of his face — causing the collapse of both of his lungs, according to a statement shared on his official Instagram page. Casio, who is already serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, does not deny attacking Lanez but claims he acted after hearing rumors that the 'Color Violet' artist had placed a bounty on his head, according to TMZ. In a recent prison phone call with the outlet, Casio said he stabbed Lanez after spotting what he believed to be a weapon in the rapper's pocket. 'He stood in front of my cell, looked at his boys, made a little smirk. And when he showed me what he had and stuffed it in his pocket, I just rushed him,' Casio can be heard saying on a recording of the call. Though Casio admitted he proceeded to slam Lanez to the ground and stab him repeatedly, he claimed he wasn't trying to kill him. 'I wish I could do certain things over, but at the end of the day, I felt like he threatened my life. The action felt necessary to me at the time,' Casio told TMZ. 'It really didn't have to go that far, but he made his decisions and I made mine.' Casio said he also walked away from the incident with a stab wound to his leg from the alleged weapon Lanez had in his pocket. After the stabbing, reps for Lanez said the rapper had to be placed on a 'breathing apparatus' but that he has since recovered and is already breathing on his own. 'Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,' his team said in a statement. Earlier this week, a rep for Lanez confirmed he had been transferred to the California Men's Colony near San Luis Obispo 'to ensure his safety' following the prison yard attack. The Canadian-born musician, whose real name Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for firing shots at hip-hop superstar Megan Thee Stallion after a party at Kylie Jenner's home in the Hollywood Hills nearly five years ago.

Rapper Tory Lanez's lungs collapsed after 14 stabs in prison yard
Rapper Tory Lanez's lungs collapsed when a fellow inmate stabbed him over a dozen times as more details emerge about Monday morning's attack at a California prison where he's serving a decade-long sentence. Reps for the 32-year-old 'Color Violet' musician — who is serving time for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in 2020 — revealed the gravity of the incident at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi in a statement on his Instagram Monday evening. 'Tory was stabbed 14 times — including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face,' the statement begins. Though the Canadian artist, born Daystar Peterson, 'is now breathing on his own,' reps said Lanez 'was placed on a breathing apparatus. 'Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,' the statement continued. 'He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.' Lanez's attorney Jose Baez told TMZ that his client is expected to make a recovery. The stabbing occurred at around 7:20 a.m. local time Monday and Lanez was transported by ambulance to an outside hospital before he was ultimately airlifted to Kern Medical Hospital in critical condition. Officials have not made public the identity of Lanez's attacker nor what the inmate is serving time for. It's unclear whether Lanez and the inmate had any prior association. The Daily News has reached out to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation seeking additional information about the incident and attacker. In 2023, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years for firing five shots at Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, after a 2020 bash at Kylie Jenner's home. Earlier this year, Megan, 30, secured a five-year restraining order against Lanez, who she said was using third parties to harass her while he serves time. 'I'm scared that when he gets out of jail, he's going to still be upset with me,' the Grammy-winning rapper said in an emotional video testimonial in January. Megan shared her fear that Lanez would maybe 'shoot me again' once free and that then, she might not 'make it. 'I haven't been at peace since I was shot,' she said. 'I'm just tired of being harassed.' ___ © 2025 New York Daily News. Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC.

Where Is Tory Lanez Now? All About the Rapper's Life in Prison After Shooting Megan Thee Stallion
In December 2022, rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting singer Megan Thee Stallion two years prior "The Color Violet" singer was given a 10-year prison sentence in August 2023 On May 12, the rapper's team confirmed on Instagram that he was stabbed in prison by a fellow inmateTory Lanez is still facing the fallout from his 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez (né Daystar Peterson) first gained popularity in the music industry through his hit single "Say It," before being thrust into a highly-publicized incident with Megan in the summer of 2020. The pair had been leaving a California pool party when Lanez shot the "Savage" singer in the foot. In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty of three charges. Following an emotional trial — where Megan testified — Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In April 2023, Megan told Elle that his guilty verdict "was a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them." More recently, on May 12, Lanez made headlines again when he was stabbed by a fellow inmate in prison. So where is Tory Lanez now? Here's everything to know about Tory Lanez's life in prison after shooting Megan Thee Stallion. In July 2020, Lanez and Megan got into an altercation while leaving Kylie Jenner's pool party in Hollywood Hills, Calif. (According to Megan, they had a friendly relationship before the incident.) During an argument in the car, Lanez allegedly directed expletives at Megan and her friend. Megan then exited the vehicle, but tried to get back inside once she realized she didn't know the area. According to prosecutors in court, Lanez allegedly shouted "Dance, bitch!" before shooting a pistol at Megan's feet, resulting in injuries that required surgery that night. Megan subsequently spent four days in a hospital to treat her wounds. During a 2021 court hearing, a detective stated that Lanez reportedly apologized for shooting Megan and asked her not to report it to authorities, per Rolling Stone. In October 2020, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that Lanez was charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in November 2020. After a nine-day trial in December 2022, Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. In August 2023, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The month of the shooting, Megan opened up about the "scary" incident during an Instagram Live, saying, "It was just the worst experience of my life and it's not funny." During an April 2023 conversation with Elle, she explained that she fell "into a depression" in the aftermath of the shooting. 'I didn't feel like making music. I was in such a low place that I didn't even know what I wanted to rap about," she said. "There would be times that I'd literally be backstage or in my hotel, crying my eyes out, and then I'd have to pull Megan Pete together and be Megan Thee Stallion.' The Grammy winner said that she is now "in a happier place," though she still has "anxiety." "Talking about being shot still makes me emotional. I've started journaling as a way to better process my thoughts, hopes, and fears," she said. "Prayer has also played a therapeutic role in my healing, because I can have honest and unfiltered conversations with God without any judgment.' The rapper continued, 'But that's the process of healing: It's an ongoing process with moments of fear and uncertainty mixed in with blissful realization. I've accepted this chapter of my life as part of my journey, but I will not allow it to define my journey. I've been dragged through the mud, but I'm so happy that I'm able to finally come out of it with a new perspective.' Megan added that she didn't want to call herself a "victim," and instead wanted to be viewed as a "survivor." In June 2023, Lanez shared an Instagram post from prison, telling his friends, family and fans that he is still "in high spirits." "I have spent the last 7 months rehabilitating my mind, my body and my soul," he wrote. "Though I came to jail a good person, I will leave as a great person." A few days after he received his sentence in August 2023, Lanez posted a message to his fan base on Instagram, writing, "I will never let no jail time eliminate me." "Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will," he continued. "This week in court I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved.... That's it. In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I'm being wrongfully convicted of." He continued, "I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do." Now serving his 10-year prison sentence at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi, Calif., Lanez has released music. He launched a "Prison Tapes" series, in which he released several singles from behind bars, though he wrote on Instagram in September 2024 that the project had been discontinued. In March 2025, he released an album titled Peterson. Tory Lanez was previously married to Raina Nancy Chassagne, with whom he shares a son, Kai'lon. Per court documents obtained by PEOPLE, they married on June 25, 2023. Less than a year after the couple wed, Chassagne filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. According to her filing, Chassagne did not request spousal support, though she is seeking sole legal and physical custody of their son. On May 12, hours after TMZ reported that Lanez had allegedly been stabbed by another prison inmate, the rapper's team confirmed the news in a statement posted to his Instagram. "Tory was stabbed 14 times - including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own," the statement read. The post continued to say that "despite being in pain," Lanez is "talking normally in good spirits" and "deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through." Per The Los Angeles Times, the attack — in which a fellow inmate stabbed him with a self-made shank — occurred at about 7:20 a.m. in a housing unit at the California prison. He was then rushed by an ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition. According to the outlet, the incident is currently being investigated by the California Correctional Institute and the Kern County District Attorney's Office. Read the original article on People
