Measles exposure sites now include Denver, Glendale, Windsor grocery stores: List
DENVER (KDVR) — Officials are warning of new potential measles exposure sites in Colorado as cases continue to spread following an out-of-state traveler who passed through the Denver International Airport and a nearby hotel last month. A second vaccinated adult in Denver County has tested positive for measles, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The infected individual was onboard the Turkish Airlines flight 201, which arrived at DIA on Tuesday, May 13. Measles vaccination rates drop after COVID-19 pandemic in counties across the US Officials say the infected individual is recovering at home. This marks the seventh case linked to an out-of-state traveler who flew while infectious. So far, officials have learned of four passengers on the flight who were infected and three people who were at the airport during the exposure period on May 14 who are also infected. Measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air via coughs and sneezes. The disease can remain in the air up to two hours after the person has left. The best way to protect yourself and loved ones is through the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, according to CDPHE. 'In rare cases, people who are vaccinated can still get measles, but their symptoms are usually milder, and they are less likely to spread it to others,' CDPHE explained in a release. Two doses of the MMR vaccination are about 97% effective in preventing measles, CDPHE has repeatedly stated. Here's where health officials say that individuals may have been exposed to measles from the most-recently confirmed measles case of the Denver County resident. Anyone who was there should monitor for symptoms for 21 days after exposure and avoid public gatherings or high-risk settings. Location Date/time When symptoms may develop Trader Joe's661 Logan CO 80203 Thursday, May 299:30 – 11:40 a.m. Through June 19 King Soopers1520 Main St Windsor, CO 80550 Friday, May 3010:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Through June 20 Target4301 E. Virginia CO 80246 Monday, June 29:20 – 11:50 p.m. Through June 23 However, there are exposure locations in Aurora, Colorado Springs, Denver, Evergreen, Glendale, Grand Junction, Greenwood Village and Windsor. All locations and time frames have been listed on CDPHE's website here. Symptoms of measles typically develop seven to 21 days after exposure. Anyone who was at the above locations during the exposure window and develops symptoms should immediately contact their health provider by phone. If you do not have a provider, call urgent care or an emergency department and explain your measles exposure. Calling ahead helps limit further exposures. Data: Map shows which Colorado school districts are most protected from measles CDPHE told FOX31 in February that prior to 2025, the last confirmed case of measles in the state was reported in December 2023, and that most of the time, measles cases occur in Colorado after travel or in under-vaccinated communities. About 93.7% of Colorado children have the MMR vaccination, which protects against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella. That's below the goal threshold of 95% for community immunity. Coloradans can check their own or their child's immunization records through the state's Immunization Information System public portal. If your provider has not reported vaccines, some records may be incomplete. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. CDPHE finds measles exposure location in Grand Junction
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – A gas station in Grand Junction has been the location of possible measles exposure, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) announced Sunday. CDPHE said anyone near the area between 6-10 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, at Love's Travel Stop/Carls Jr., 748 22 Road, might have been exposed to the disease. Symptoms may develop through June 17. The department said anyone exposed should monitor their symptoms for 21 days and try to avoid public gatherings or high-risk settings. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash which begins a few days later on the face before spreading. CDPHE said the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine 'provides strong protection.' The Junction location wasn't the only known place exposed to measles in the state. CDPHE said two locations were also found in Colorado Springs The department also said the total cases of measles has reached six after two El Paso County unvaccinated adults were confirmed to have the disease. They are unrelated but were at Denver International Airport around the same time on May 14. Both of them are recovering at home. No Mesa County residents have been confirmed with measles. First 2025 measles cases reported in El Paso County
(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the El Paso County Public Health (EPCPH) have confirmed two measles cases in El Paso County. Two unvaccinated adults have been confirmed to have measles. The adults are unrelated, but were at Denver International Airport around the same time on Wednesday, May 14. Another individual from Arapahoe County who was a passenger on a Turkish Airlines flight that arrived in Denver on May 13 has also been confirmed positive for measles. The two unvaccinated adults from El Paso and the vaccinated adult from Arapahoe County are all recovering at home. The CDPHE said that based on information, anyone who was in the following locations during the dates and times may have been exposed to measles: Location Date/Time When symptoms may develop Love's Travel Stop/Carl's Jr. 748 Road, Grand Junction Tuesday, May 276 – 10 p.m. Through June 17 Maverick Gas Station 2588 Airport Road, Colorado Springs Wednesday, May 289-11:30 a.m. Through June 18 King Soopers1750 W. Measles is highly contagious and can sometimes lead to serious health problems, but it is a vaccine-preventable disease,' the CDPHE wrote. 'Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash that usually starts several days later on the face and spreads. The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine provides strong protection.' Monitoring is important, especially for people who have not been vaccinated with the MMR vaccine, which, if given within 72 hours of infection, can prevent infection. Colorado's total number of cases is up to six. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Measles Outbreak on Flight to Denver Sickens 3, Including Young Child
Three people have been confirmed to have measles, their illness connected to exposure on a Turkish Airlines flight that landed in Denver on May 13, officials confirmed The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued a list of 'known exposure locations' where the sickened individuals were present while contagious Officials urge that people protect themselves and their families with the MMR vaccine; Three people in the U.S. have died from measles so far this yearThree people have been sickened by measles due to exposure from an international flight that landed in Denver, officials have confirmed. An out-of-state traveler who was infectious on the flight, a vaccinated adult and a child younger than five have the highly infectious disease, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said in a May 29 statement. All three were on board Turkish Airlines flight 201, which landed in Denver on May 13. Health officials shared a list of six 'known exposure locations' — where the three individuals with measles visited while infectious — that include restaurants, a gym and shops; As the U.S. Centers for Disease Control points out, the disease is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and the virus stays in the air for up to two hours. 'If you were at these locations during the exposure window and develop symptoms, immediately contact your health care provider by phone,' officials said in their statement, which cautions people who were at these locations to 'consider avoiding public gatherings or high-risk settings.' Symptoms to watch out for include 'fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a characteristic rash.' These can begin up to 21 days after exposure. While officials note that measles is 'highly contagious' and can often lead to dire health outcomes, it is preventable. 'The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine provides strong protection. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your family and your community,' Colorado officials say, noting that it's 'rare' for vaccinated people to develop measles, but when they do, 'their symptoms are usually milder, and they are less likely to spread it to others.' This outbreak is part of an ongoing rise in reports of measles exposures in the U.S. In March, there was exposure on an Amtrak train to Washington, D.C. In May, someone attended a Shakira concert in New Jersey while infectious with measles. 'Measles isn't just a little rash,' the CDC says. It also comes with a high fever, cough, runny nose and may lead to pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain), which can cause hearing loss and cognitive disabilities. It can also be fatal: There have been three deaths in the U.S. this year from measles, the CDC says, and 1,088 confirmed cases of the disease. Read the original article on People
