(AP Photo/Lynne Sladky) MIAMI (AP) — Hunter Goodman homered twice, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the fifth inning, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Miami Marlins 6-4 on Monday night to snap their fourth eight-game losing streak of the season. It was the 10th win against 50 losses for the Rockies, who had already wrapped up the worst 60-game start in the modern era (since 1901). The 1904 Washington Senators and 1932 Boston Red Sox both opened 11-49. Advertisement Goodman had a two-out single in the first off Max Meyer, and Thairo Estrada followed with an RBI double to give Colorado the lead. Goodman was charged with an error in the bottom half when he dropped a throw at home plate, allowing the tying run to score. Otto Lopez added an RBI single off Germán Márquez, and a sacrifice fly by Eric Wagaman gave Miami a 3-1 lead. Jesús Sánchez's run-scoring double made it 4-1 in the second. Goodman homered in the third, and Tyler Freeman's two-out RBI single in the fourth got the Rockies within a run. Ezequiel Tovar singled leading off the fifth and Goodman followed with his ninth homer for a 5-4 advantage. Advertisement Keston Hiura doubled leading off the ninth for his first hit with Colorado, and Sam Hilliard's one-out double drove in an insurance run. Márquez (2-7) allowed four runs — three earned — and nine hits in five innings. Jake Bird, Tyler Kinley and Seth Halvorsen each pitched a scoreless inning before Zach Agnos worked the ninth for his fourth save. Meyer (3-5) gave up five runs — four earned — and 10 hits in five innings. Miami has lost three of four to begin a six-game homestand. Key moment Sánchez singled leading off the ninth for Miami (23-35) before he was forced out at second on a pop fly by Agustín Ramírez that dropped in front of Freeman in right field. Agnos got Kyle Stowers to hit into a game-ending double play two pitches later. Advertisement Key stat Goodman, a third-year catcher, leads Colorado in home runs and RBIs (34). Up next Marlins RHP Sandy Alcantara (2-7, 8.47 ERA) starts the middle game of the series Tuesday. The Rockies hadn't announced a scheduled starter. ___ AP MLB:

(AP Photo/David Zalubowski) DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant is scheduled to undergo a procedure on his balky back Thursday in Los Angeles. Bryant's currently on the injured list with lumbar degenerative disk disease, which involves the deterioration of the spinal disks that act as cushions between the vertebrae. It's his ninth stint on the IL since 2022 due to a series of health issues. Advertisement The upcoming procedure for Bryant is referred to as an ablation, which is designed to interrupt pain signals being sent from the back to the brain. 'From what the doctors feel, it should help alleviate some discomfort,' Rockies manager Bud Black explained before opening a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. 'He should be back in a day or two resuming activities.' The 33-year-old Bryant is hitting .154 this season with no homers, one RBI, 13 strikeouts. Bryant has been limited to 170 games with Colorado since signing a $182 million, seven-year contract before the 2022 season. His injuries have included plantar fasciitis, a bone bruise in his foot, heel issues, a broken finger, a back strain, a lower rib contusion and back problems. He's hit .244 with 17 homers and 61 RBIs with the Rockies. Bryant was the 2016 NL MVP as he helped the Chicago Cubs end a 108-year World Series drought. ___ AP MLB:

(AP Photo/David Zalubowski) LOS ANGELES (AP) — Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant has landed on the 10-day injured list with a bad back, the latest in a series of health issues that have plagued him. The team said Monday's move, retroactive to Sunday, is due to lumbar degenerative disk disease. Advertisement The 33-year-old Bryant spent the offseason following a stringent program to strengthen his back. 'This is an aggravation,' manager Bud Black said. 'We don't want him to take any steps backwards by trying to push him through this. He's going to have to manage his back, just like a lot of players have to manage certain body parts to get through the season.' Just like the Rockies, Bryant has gotten off to a slow start through 11 games. The team had a major league-worst three wins going into its series opener at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Bryant is batting .154 with six hits, one RBI, 13 strikeouts and no homers. Advertisement Degenerative disk disease involves the breakdown and deterioration of the spinal disks, which act as cushions between the vertebrae. It's a natural part of aging, but can also be accelerated by injury, overuse, and lifestyle choices. While DDD itself isn't a disease, the resulting disk degeneration can lead to pain, nerve compression, and other symptoms. Bryant signed a $182 million, seven-year contract to join the Rockies ahead of the 2022 season. He's appeared in only 170 games since then due to plantar fasciitis, a bone bruise in his foot, heel issues, a broken finger, a back strain, a lower rib contusion and now further back issues. When he's been in the lineup, Bryant has batted just .244 with 17 home runs and 61 RBIs. His numbers have tailed off dramatically since his best years with the Chicago Cubs. Bryant helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series and was the NL MVP that year. The four-time All-Star hit .278 and averaged 31 homers and 89 RBIs between 2015 and 2021. Advertisement Colorado called up catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Bryant's place on the roster, and right-hander Jeff Criswell was transferred to the 60-day IL. ___ AP MLB:

Denver's mayor paints the town purple ahead of Colorado Rockies' Home Opener on Friday

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston painted a purple stripe along Blake Street on Wednesday leading up to the Colorado Rockies' Home Opener. Johnston teamed up with a Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure crew for the annual tradition. The purple stripe is along Blake Street from 22nd and 19th streets. There are also a few Rockies logos on the way. The painting of the purple stripe, the Rockies' signature color, began in 1995 when the Rockies hosted their first Home Opener at Coors Field. The purple stripe is typically painted with a spraying device, but this year, Johnston grabbed a roller and helped even up the paint in spots.
