Finalists revealed for Arapahoe County Court new district court judgeship

DENVER (KDVR) — Three candidates have been nominated for a new district court judgeship in Arapahoe County Court for a role that will be effective July 1. The nominees for the role as a district court judge for the 18th Judicial District include Bryce David Allen of Aurora, Trenton Wayne Ghoram of Peyton and James Xavier Quinn of Denver, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch. The commission selected the three nominees on Monday. Gov. Polis, who signed the bill into law in March, will now have 15 days to appoint one of them to the district judge role. People with comments about any of the nominees can send their thoughts to Gov. Polis by email. The 18th Judicial District is the court for Arapahoe, Elbert, Douglas and Lincoln counties, and provides court and district court attorney services to the western, central and eastern locations of Arapahoe County. The state of Colorado and Arapahoe County oversee the court system. The court's District court judges hear civil cases of any amount as well as domestic relations, criminal, juvenile, probate and mental health cases. Colorado Senate Bill 25-024 was enacted this year to address increasing caseloads and enhance access to justice by expanding the state's judiciary. Gov. Polis signed SB25-024 into law on March 24, 2025. The new law was first introduced on Jan. 8, 2025. The bill mandated the addition of one district court judge in the 4th, 17th, 18th and 23rd judicial districts by July 1, 2025. SB25-024 also increased the number of county court judges in La Plata County by one. Starting July 1, 2026, the bill will increase by one the number of district court judges in the 4th, 13th, 17th, 18th and 19th judicial districts, as well as increase by one the number of county court judges in Larimer County, Douglas County, Mesa County and Eagle County. The bill also allows district court judges assigned to Arapahoe County to maintain offices outside of the county seat. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
