Greece CSD approves exemption for veterans on school property taxes
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Veterans who live in the Greece Central School District may soon be offered tax relief.
Greece CSD's Board of Education voted Tuesday night to implement a Veterans' Tax Exemption on school property taxes. Qualifying veterans, their spouses, and unmarried surviving spouses will see the assessed value of their primary home reduced for school tax purposes.
Veterans who are eligible may qualify for the Alternative Veterans' Exemption, Combat Zone Service Exemption, and Service-Connected Disability Exemption.
If fully implemented, the exemption will shift part of the tax levy to non-exempt property owners. This will lead to an increase of around 45 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. Homeowners with a $225,000 assessment would see an additional $102.04 per year in school taxes.
Over 2,000 veterans receive an exemption for town and county taxes. Those already receiving this exemption do not need to take further action.
Those who have not applied must do so by March 1, 2026.
