Delay in release of T.N. open varsity final semester results hits prospective TNPSC applicants

A prospective applicant for Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), who is awaiting his final semester results of Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU), has written to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, seeking release of the results before May 7. The applicant, K. Dinakaran, a native of Thiruthangal in Virudhunagar district, pursued his Master's in history (Tamil medium) from TNOU and wrote his final semester examination in January 2025. According to him, the notification for TNPSC Combined Technical Services Examination (interview post), tourism officer and assistant director (technical), Archaeology Department, is to be issued on May 7. As per rules, the applicant should possess the results of the final semester examination on or before the notification for the postings. 'We cannot apply for the postings without the exam results,' he said. Further, he had written to the university and the Department of Higher Education. However, the university had replied that the results could not be published before May 7, as the last theory examination was conducted only on April 27. Hence, due to valuation and other documentation purposes, his request could not be complied with. Rejecting the university's claims, he said in the previous years, the university had published the results as and when the valuation of the subjects was completed. Many applicants like him would not be eligible to apply for the postings due to non-issuance of results. 'Since the notification for the particular posting is going to be issued again only after four years, I do not know if I can apply for it next time.' As he was 32 years old and the age limit for the post was 35 years, he would not be eligible to apply after four years, he added. He appealed to the State government to relax the rules for the Technical Service Examination and allow candidates awaiting their PG results. The posting was equivalent to that of a TNPSC group 1 posting and, hence, the same rules must be applied to both. 'For people like me it is a livelihood issue, so I want it to be treated as a priority and considered for modifications,' said Mr. Dinakaran. TNOU authorities said that due to delay in conducting the examinaticcons, processes pertaining to the publishing of the results had also been delayed.
