Command and Staff College delegation learns Shura Council's roles and powers
Muscat: A delegation from the 38th course of the Command and Staff College visited the Shura Council on Monday to learn about the Council's responsibilities, legislative roles, and powers.
The delegation was received by Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Nadabi, Secretary General of the Shura Council, who delivered an introductory lecture highlighting the evolution of Shura in the Sultanate of Oman.
He elaborated on the Council's legislative roles and powers as defined by the Basic Statute of the State and the Law of the Council of Oman issued by Royal Decree No. (7/2021).
He also discussed the Council's oversight functions and the tools it employs for follow-up, referencing relevant data and statistics that reflect the active use of these tools during the current term.
In addition, he outlined the role of the General Secretariat in supporting legislative work and explained the operational mechanisms of regular sessions, the Council's Bureau, and its standing committees.
Al-Nadabi further highlighted the Council's complementary role in national decision-making alongside other state institutions and its contribution to achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
He also underscored the Council's growing presence in parliamentary diplomacy through participation in regional and international forums and meetings.
During their visit, the delegation toured various Council facilities, including the main
deliberation hall, where they received a briefing on its components, the modern technologies used to manage sessions, and the electronic voting system for legislation using state-of-the-art equipment.
The visit also included a tour of the Oman Council Library, which houses a wide collection of modern books and research materials that support the work of Council members.
