Washington legend joins coaching staff for one day

When the Washington Commanders opened Phase 3 of their offseason program this week, they had a special assistant coach. Team legend Brian Mitchell spent Wednesday working with Washington's returners in practice. Before any fans get their hopes up, Mitchell isn't joining the Commanders' staff. Mitchell joined Washington for one day, offering his expertise to his former team. Mitchell, who co-hosts the local radio show, "BMitch and Finlay," on 106.7 The Fan, has lived in the Washington area since his NFL retirement. Advertisement You can't blame the Commanders for wanting Mitchell to work with the returners. Mitchell holds the NFL record with 14,014 kick return yards and 4,999 punt return yards, and is second all-time, behind only Jerry Rice, with 23,330 career all-purpose yards. Yet, somehow, Mitchell is still not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Devin Hester made the Hall of Fame as a return man last year and gave Mitchell a shoutout, saying he also belongs in Canton, Ohio. Washington head coach Dan Quinn was thrilled to have Mitchell. "Brian Mitchell came through and spent some time with returners today," Quinn said on Wednesday. "With over 19,000 return yards and 13 special teams touchdowns, I had invited him in the winter: 'Hey man, do you mind coming through for a day and hanging out with us?' And so couldn't think of a more ideal person to share some insights and some ideas about returning. I'd asked him, he had not returned a kick until he got to the NFL. Now that was just wild man. Like how, what a work ethic it takes to say, yeah, I'll figure it out. Like, I'll find my way whether I'm playing running back or returning kicks or punts or covering kicks, like that's a real one. So, all that said, let's get rocking with you guys and start the day.' Among Washington's top return candidates is rookie wide receiver Jaylin Lane. The fourth-round pick from Virginia Tech could make an immediate impact for the Commanders in the return game. Second-year wide receiver Luke McCaffrey did a solid job as Washington's kickoff returner late last season when taking over for injured running back Austin Ekeler. Which Commanders' 2025 game is considered a top-10 game to watch?

Which Commanders' 2025 game is considered a top-10 game to watch? The Washington Commanders now know the order in which they face their opponents in 2025 since the NFL released the schedule this week. They already knew which teams they would face, just not when. Before the schedule was released, the Commanders already had matchups that were inside the top 10 matchups for the season. Now that the schedule is set, one of those games remains inside the top 10: Their Week 6 matchup against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. Last year's iteration wasn't a pretty game, but it had the most memorable outcome with Jayden Daniels' ridiculous Hail Mary. It was a touchstone tilt for both squads. The Bears spiraled into the depths, losing 10 straight, firing their coach, and starting over again. The win helped catapult Washington to the postseason and eventually the NFC Championship Game. I'm anticipating a better bout in 2025. The Commanders added Deebo Samuel to the mix and upgraded the offensive line, including trading for left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The Bears hired the best play-caller available in Ben Johnson, fortified the offensive line and added additional playmakers in Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III. Caleb Williams v. Jayden Daniels 2.0 should be much more than a Hail Mary highlight. True, last year's meeting between the Bears and Commanders was a rough game to watch, but the successful Hail Mary to win the game made a lasting impression on both sides. Caleb Williams and the Bears fell into the depths of their own sorrow while Jayden Daniels and the Commanders used the win as a springboard to the playoffs. This year, the game is back at Northwest Stadium, and while Williams enters the season needing desperately to prove himself, Daniels will walk into that game with the confidence that he's going to win. It certainly won't be the same game it was last year, but with the Bears' new head coach, it will be an excellent matchup.

NFL experts predict the Eagles 2025 record after schedule release

NFL experts predict the Eagles 2025 record after schedule release The 2025 NFL schedule has been released and most experts and analyst think the Eagles will win 11 games The NFL's annual schedule reveal has become its own event. Now that the dates and times are set, experts and analysts from around the league will spend the next four months predicting and projecting the final records for all 32 teams. Philadelphia has the fourth-hardest schedule in the league. It will open with Dallas at home and Kansas City on the road in a brutal slate of games that features no back-to-back home games for the Eagles. The Eagles will play on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and depending on what the league does with the Commanders' matchups, they could have six primetime games. Week 1: Thursday, Sept. 4: vs. Dallas Cowboys, 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC ("Sunday Night Football") Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 14: at Kansas City Chiefs, 4:25 p.m. ET, Fox Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 21: vs. Los Angeles Rams, 1 p.m. ET, Fox Week 4: Sunday, Sept. 28: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 p.m., Fox Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 5: vs. Denver Broncos, 1:05 p.m. ET, CBS Week 6: Thursday, Oct. 9: at New York Giants, 8:15 p.m. ET, Prime Video ("Thursday Night Football") Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 19: at Minnesota Vikings, 1:05 p.m. ET., Fox Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 26: vs. New York Giants, 1 p.m. ET, Fox Week 9: BYE Week 10: Monday, Nov. 10: at Green Bay Packers, 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC ("Monday Night Football") Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 16: vs. Detroit Lions, 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC ("Sunday Night Football") Week 12: Sunday, November 23: at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m. ET, Fox Week 13: Friday, Nov. 28: vs. Chicago Bears at 3 p.m. ET, Prime Video (Black Friday) Week 14: Monday, Dec. 8: at Los Angeles Chargers, 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC ("Monday Night Football") Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 14: vs. Las Vegas Raiders, 1:05 p.m. ET, Fox Week 16: Saturday, Dec. 20: at Washington Commanders, 4:30 p.m. ET OR 8 p.m. ET, Fox Week 17: Sunday, Dec. 28: at Buffalo Bills at 4:25 p.m. ET, Fox Week 18: Date TBD: vs. Washington Commanders, TBD, TBD Buy Eagles regular season tickets We're looking at the NFL expert predictions with the schedule now revealed. They will face the gauntlet of juggernauts in the NFC North and the AFC West and division winners in the NFC West, AFC East, and NFC South. NFL seasons are emotional swings, and Philadelphia will have key moments where things just aren't clicking, but they'll win 13-plus games. Despite losing edge-rusher Josh Sweat, defensive tackle Milton Williams, guard Mekhi Becton, cornerback Darius Slay and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the Philadelphia Eagles have the collective talent and offensive continuity in the coaching ranks to remain atop the NFC East. Philadelphia retained most of its offensive core and promoted passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo, who has worked with Jalen Hurts for the previous four years. In typical Howie Roseman fashion, he added depth to the trenches, taking fliers on guard Kenyon Green and edge-rushers Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche. Tim McManus has the Eagles winning 11+ games. The Eagles will have to fight out of a small hole at the beginning of the season. The Cowboys, Chiefs and Rams all have something to prove, with two of them in Kansas City and Los Angeles losing to the Eagles last postseason. Philadelphia will be adjusting to a new offensive coordinator in Kevin Patullo following the departure of Kellen Moore this offseason, while the defense will be breaking in several new starters. That could equal a loss or two early on. Ralph Vacchiano has Philadelphia losing six games in 2025. One thing is certain about the defending Super Bowl champions: They're going to have to earn everything they get this season. They have an incredibly hard schedule that has them facing seven playoff teams on the road. They face all four teams they beat during their Super Bowl run last season — at Green Bay, vs. the L.A. Rams, at Kansas City, plus their usual home-and-home with the Commanders, which comes in the final three weeks of this season. Plus they play at Buffalo in Week 17. It's all brutal. The Eagles' record may not be as gaudy as it was last year, but they sure will be battle-tested for the playoffs. has the Eagles winning 11+ games. Week 1's win percentage represents Philly's highest forecasted odds of beating Dallas in their first matchup of the season (in any week) in at least 10 seasons. You're welcome, Eagles fans. Over the next three weeks, the defending champs visit the Chiefs, host the Rams, then travel to the Bucs -- with each game presenting a much tougher task than the opener. It's worth noting that the Eagles and Commanders don't have their first matchup until Week 16 in Washington (with the follow-up set for Week 18 in Philly). The Eagles have a brutal first five weeks, including the Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. But the defending champs proved last season that they're capable of brushing off slow starts—winning 10 consecutive games after a 2–2 start. There won't be many favorable stretches, especially residing in the rugged NFC East, but the Eagles have the advantage of leaning on a stout offensive line and Saquon Barkley. Two of the experts at the Inquirer have the Eagles going 13-4, while two others say 11-5. Jacob Camenker has the Eagles going 11-6.

Commanders Super Bowl odds after 2025 NFL schedule release

Commanders Super Bowl odds after 2025 NFL schedule release Show Caption Hide Caption Will Anderson Jr. talks about going into year three in the NFL Texans DB Will Anderson Jr. talks about his expectations for the 2025 season. Sports Seriously Will the Washington Commanders win the Super Bowl? Following the 2025 NFL schedule release, it's worth wondering whether the Commanders have a path to the Super Bowl. Let's see what the odds have to say. According to BetMGM, the Commanders are +1800 to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. That ranks tied for sixth with the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers among NFL teams. The Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites with +650 odds. Despite an inspiring run behind quarterback Jayden Daniels last season, sportsbooks still aren't bullish on the Commanders as favorites to win it all. Although the Commanders' Super Bowl odds didn't change in the wake of the schedule release, it likely didn't help that Washington was stuck with back-to-back prime time games against the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks in Weeks 8 and 9, respectively. The end of the Commanders' schedule could be a weak spot, too. They will host the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys in consecutive weeks before taking a trip to Philadelphia in Week 18. Do you think the Commanders' schedule release made them more or less likely to win the Super Bowl?

Washington, D.C. will host 2027 NFL Draft as Commanders prepare to return to the city

The draft will be held at the National Mall when it heads to Washington, D.C., for the first time The NFL Draft is headed to the nation's capital. The league announced Monday that Washington, D.C., will host the NFL Draft in 2027, with commissioner Roger Goodell and Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris joining President Donald Trump at the White House. Trump said the draft will take place on the National Mall, a possibility Axios first reported Sunday. It's official. The 2027 NFL Draft is headed to Washington, D.C.! — NFL (@NFL) May 5, 2025 The decision to hold the draft in D.C. comes a week after the Commanders unveiled plans to return to the city and the RFK campus they used to play at for decades. The team is set to build a new stadium that will hold approximately 65,000 people and include a roof. The goal is to have the stadium, which will drastically improve the Commanders' chances of hosting a Super Bowl, open by 2030. ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement The Commanders won three Super Bowls when they used to play at RFK Stadium. The team left for Landover, Maryland, before the 1997 season. RFK Stadium has not been used since 2017, and D.C. gained control of the land in December — which helped lead to the Commanders' deal to return to the site. The team is expected to invest about $2.7 billion into the stadium, though the move has yet to be approved by the D.C. Council. The NFL Draft was held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, last month for the first time in history. The draft was previously held in New York for decades before moving around again in 2015. More than 600,000 fans attended the draft over the three days this spring, which is among the most attended drafts in history and roughly double the population of the Green Bay metropolitan area. Pittsburgh is set to host the NFL Draft next year. Denver also submitted a bid to host the draft in 2027. With D.C. getting the nod instead, the Broncos will likely be high on the list in the near future.
