Tsakane and Langaville sting ops lead to arrest of suspects with illegal guns Tsakani – The EMPD's Community Liaison Unit (CLU) arrested two men, aged 23 and 31, for possession of unlicensed firearms during operations in Tsakane and Langaville on May 21. According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, officers received information from the Crime Intelligence Unit about a person believed to have an unlicensed firearm. 'The individual was reportedly terrorising the community through a series of robberies in the area,' said Dlamini. 'In response, officers swiftly launched a sting operation to apprehend the man. They proceeded to an address on Khotavhushika Street, where they found someone matching the description provided. 'The officers explained the purpose of their visit and requested permission to do a search, which the suspect granted. 'They found identity documents and bank cards that the suspect could not explain and two unlicensed black firearms hidden beneath the mattress,' explained Dlamini. Dlamini said officers cornered a 23-year-old male in Langaville Ext 3. 'Upon arrival, officers explained the reason for their visit and asked to search the premises, which the uneasy suspect allowed. Officers found a silver unlicensed firearm in his trousers, and the man failed to provide satisfactory answers for having a weapon,' he added. Both suspects were detained at the Tsakane Police Station. The confiscated unlicensed guns with an estimated value of R1 650 were booked at the police station. The two face charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and will soon appear in the Tsakane Magistrate's Court. EMPD officers seize rock cocaine in separate Duduza drug busts
Two men were arrested on May 14 in Duduza by members of the EMPD's Community Liaison Unit for possession and dealing in an illicit substance. Officers received information from concerned members of the community about the pair selling drugs. Acting on the tip-off, the officers proceeded to an address on Kuvuki Street in Ext 1, where they found a 27-year-old man in possession of rock cocaine. The drugs were individually wrapped and 22 small packages were seized, with an estimated street value of R1 100. Meanwhile, on Mkay Street in Ext 3, officers apprehended a 23-year-old man, also in possession of rock cocaine. Officers confiscated 18 small packages containing the substance, with an estimated street value of R600, and R40 in cash. The two were arrested and taken to Duduza SAPS. The confiscated drugs and cash were booked in at the same police station. The men face charges of possession and dealing in an illicit substance, and are expected to appear in the Nigel Magistrate's Court. Two men have been arrested by EMPD officers after they were found in a warehouse with fake designer goods in Boksburg North. Two men, aged 40 and 49, were arrested for allegedly trying to bribe Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers with R30,000 after they were caught red-handed with various fake branded clothing items in the Boksburg North area. The men were arrested Tuesday at about 1pm by officers from the EMPD's Community Liaison Unit. EMPD spokesperson Katlego Mphahlele said that while officers were patrolling the area, they received information from a reliable source about a warehouse suspected of storing counterfeit goods. She said the officers immediately proceeded to an industrial area on Dr. Vosloorus Street. 'Upon arrival, officers found two males and explained the reason for their surprise visit. 'One male approached the officers and offered a bribe of R30,000, while requesting officers to leave his business premises,' Mphahlele said.
