Port Colborne's Community Safety Day returns Saturday
Families can learn about fire prevention, emergency preparedness and personal safety as Community Safety Day returns to Port Colborne on May 10. The free event, hosted by Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services, runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Port Colborne Fire Hall, located at 3 Killaly St. W. The event features live demonstrations, interactive displays and safety exhibits aimed at raising public awareness and encouraging emergency planning. 'Engaging in conversations about safety is crucial for everyone in the community, regardless of age,' said Port Colborne fire chief, Stan Double in a statement from the city. 'It's an important step in making emergency preparedness part of our daily lives.' Several emergency and community partners will be on site as well to share information and answer questions from visitors. One of the event's highlights is the return of the bicycle rodeo, presented by the Port Colborne Optimist Club. Children are encouraged to bring their bikes and helmets to participate in guided traffic simulations and road safety activities. The city says the goal of the event is to continue to offer accessible, hands-on safety education for residents of all ages. 'Community Safety Day is a great opportunity for us to connect with residents, share valuable information, and raise awareness that could one day (save) a life,' Double said. Jasper County Sheriff's Office highlights safety at annual event
JASPER CO., Mo. — It was a day full of fun and safety for Jasper County residents. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office hosted its annual 'Community Safety Day' outside the office. More than 200 attendees showed up this year, learning firsthand some of the things the Sheriff's office does every day. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., loads of live demonstrations filled the area, including the SWAT team, K-9's and the horseback posse. Attendees also enjoyed free food from the grill, face painting, a bounce house, and snow cones. 'It's just kind of showing a little bit of what we do. And, you know, part of what we do, we need the community's help. And so it helps to interact with them, get to know each other. So they feel more comfortable calling us and interacting with us,' said Derek Walrod, Jasper County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy. D.A.R.E., Children's Haven, and the Jasper County Health Department also set up booths today to share information with the community. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
