New mayor of Wolverhampton named as Craig Collingswood
City of Wolverhampton Council has appointed the city's 166th Craig Collingswood took over from outgoing mayor councillor Linda Leach, at an annual council meeting on Wednesday who has served the Park Ward since 2012 and was deputy mayor last year, said: "As a born and bred Wulfrunian, it is an incredible honour and I pledge to dedicate my time, energy and commitment to serving this amazing place to the best of my ability."His daughter Abby, a cardiothoracic nurse at New Cross Hospital's Heart and Lung Centre, is mayoress. "Abby will be a wonderful mayoress and, together, we promise to act with integrity and put the interests of our city and Wulfrunians first and foremost," Collingswood said. "Let us work together to make Wolverhampton an even better place for future generations, guided by the light that our motto so brilliantly embodies." Previously a lecturer The mayor has chosen four charities to support during his year: SAFFA, the armed forces charity; the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity; the Wolverhampton palliative care charity, Compton Care; and Acorns Children's Paul Singh has been appointed deputy mayor for 2025-26, with his wife Ranjit Dhillon becoming deputy mayoress. Collingswood, who attended Manor Primary and Parkfields Secondary schools, worked in occupational health in local government for many years before becoming a lecturer. His father was a Bilston councillor for 17 years and, following in his footsteps, the new mayor previously served as the council's cabinet member for resident services and the environment, and as chair of the audit and risk son Jack, a trooper serving with the British Army in The Queen's Royal Hussars regiment in Germany, is also chair of the Wolverhampton Armed Forces Covenant Board. Hospice mural contest to improve view for patients The mural will be on the wall of a 1980s annex attached to the Grade II listed main hall A hospice is running a competition to find a local artist to design a mural for its patients. Compton Care, which provides an 18-bed unit in the west of Wolverhampton, has asked artists to pitch ideas for an external wall that patients can see from their rooms. The charity said it was looking for designs that reflected the city's people and conveyed a sense of "calm and relaxation" for patients. The competition is open to West Midlands artists and the deadline to apply is 9 June.

City's half marathon returns for charity fundraiser
Runners across the West Midlands are being invited to take part in a 10k run for charity. Wolverhampton's half marathon will start at the Molineux Stadium on Sunday at 09:00 GMT and offers runners of all abilities "an incredible opportunity". Proceeds from this year's race will go towards local specialist care charity Compton Care. Organiser Matt Wood said: "The Wolverhampton 10k is an incredible opportunity for runners of all abilities to experience a fast, closed-road course in a fantastic setting. "We're excited to see everyone push their limits while supporting a great cause," he added. Sally Woods, from Compton Care, said the charity was grateful for all the runners involved. "Good luck to everyone taking part in the Wolves 10K," she said. "We're so grateful to everyone running so that we can continue to support as many people as possible."
