Puducherry to recruit 1000 for government posts over next six months

PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday announced that the Puducherry government would recruit 1000 individuals for various posts over the next six months, including 300 positions for Lower Division Clerks. With this, the total number of direct government recruitments since the AINRC-BJP alliance assumed office in 2021 will rise to 5,000. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a Rs 34-crore ice cream manufacturing plant of the Pondicherry Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited (Ponlait) at Kurumampet, Rangasamy criticised the previous Congress-DMK government for its failure to generate jobs. 'They could not provide any government employment. But our government has filled 4,000 vacancies through direct recruitment,' he said. The Chief Minister expressed concern over Ponlait's deteriorating finances, revealing that the cooperative had incurred a loss of Rs 27 crore despite being profitable in the past. He attributed the decline to employee apathy. 'Without Amul's support, Ponlait would be in a dire state. We are struggling to meet Amul's demand. Employees must show greater commitment if Ponlait is to increase production,' he said.

Will AIADMK seek NEET exemption as pre-condition for its alliance with BJP, asks Stalin

Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday asked Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami if the AIADMK would tell the BJP that scrapping NEET is a pre-condition for it to continue in the NDA. Stalin's attack on Palaniswami in the Assembly came after the opposition leader criticised the DMK-Congress regime for the NEET's introduction in the state. "Now you have got the right opportunity to address that problem," Stalin said and demanded to know if the AIADMK would say that it would stay back in the BJP-led NDA only if the current NEET exam system is scrapped. "Will it say that it will snap ties if this was not done? and that is the question," he said. Palaniswami said the DMK gave an assurance to people that it would scrap NEET ahead of the 2021 polls and the AIADMK made efforts to stop the test, which was launched during the Congress-DMK regime at the Centre. 5 5 Next Stay Playback speed 1x Normal Back 0.25x 0.5x 1x Normal 1.5x 2x 5 5 / Skip Ads by by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ₹2 Crore Term Plan For The Middle-Class Salaried Employees at Just ₹876/M Best Term Insurance! The chief minister said it was true that the DMK gave an assurance to the people on cancelling NEET in the state. Live Events He said: "We are not denying that. We would have fulfilled our promise for sure had our alliance (INDIA bloc) captured power at the Centre. Now, you have formed an alliance; will you put forward this rider (seeking ending NEET in Tamil Nadu) for continuance of the alliance and that is the question." Palaniswami, the top AIADMK leader during his speech said there was nothing wrong in his party aligning with the BJP when the DMK stitched an alliance with the Congress party which was blamed for MISA incarcerations during the Emergency (1975-77). Also, he wondered with whom the DMK aligned in 1999. When Palaniswami said the DMK deceived the people and formed the government in 2021, Stalin said: "We did not come to power by deceiving the people. Two months ago you said AIADMK will not be in the BJP alliance even in 2026 and 2031 polls too. Now you have joined them; why this drama and to deceive whom this drama? Transport Minister SS Sivasankar said a "deal" had been struck between the AIADMK and the BJP over NEET and accordingly, 11 medical colleges were sanctioned by the Centre for Tamil Nadu during the AIADMK regime for allowing NEET. The heated debate over NEET involving the ruling benches and the main opposition party happened when AIADMK's A Govindasamy spoke in the House by taking part in the Demand for Grants for Health and Family Welfare Department for 2025-26. Speaking to reporters outside the House, Palaniswami reiterated that the national medical test was introduced by the DMK and the AIADMK took all steps to stop it. Palaniswami said his party may align with any political party and the chief minister questioning the alliance with BJP showed that he was afraid of a regime change, a win for the AIADMK-led alliance in the 2026 Assembly polls. Tamil Nadu has an annual admission capacity of 11,700 MBBS seats including 5,050 seats in government medical colleges, 4,453 postgraduate seats, of which 2,294 seats are in government medical colleges.

CM Stalin questions AIADMK's credibility in demanding NEET abolition with BJP as partner

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, on Monday questioned the AIADMK's credibility in demanding the abolition of NEET while simultaneously having an alliance with the BJP. Speaking during a debate, CM Stalin said, 'Opposition leader Palaniswami, who declared just two months ago that he would not ally with the BJP in 2026 or even 2031, is now doing a dramatic U-turn. Who is he trying to fool?' The debate on grants for Health and Family Welfare in the Assembly turned acrimonious when Minister Sivasankar accused the AIADMK of facilitating NEET's introduction, comparing it to a "bakery dealing" in the style of a Vadivelu comedy. This sparked loud protests from AIADMK members. Palaniswami countered that NEET was introduced during the Congress-DMK rule. To this, CM Stalin retorted: 'Now that you have a chance to correct the mistake, do you have the credibility to demand NEET's abolition at the same time having an alliance with the BJP?' CM Stalin also clarified that while the DMK had pledged to abolish NEET, it had not formed the central government with its allies. Palaniswami shot back, saying, 'We didn't come to power by cheating the people.' The argument escalated with CM Stalin repeatedly questioning AIADMK's alliance moves and whether they had the moral ground to seek NEET's removal. Palaniswami defended the move, stating, 'What's wrong in forming an alliance? The DMK has done it too, and much earlier.' After walking out of the Assembly, Palaniswami addressed the media outside, claiming CM Stalin's remarks were misleading. 'NEET was brought in during the Congress-DMK regime. It was not the AIADMK,' he said. He added that his party had tried to stop NEET's implementation but was overruled by the courts. 'We went to court against NEET, and it was only due to the verdict that it was implemented during our tenure.' He also highlighted that the DMK had promised to scrap NEET in its 2021 election manifesto but failed to deliver. Criticising the DMK's previous alliance with the BJP, Palaniswami accused CM Stalin of hypocrisy. 'When we join hands with the BJP, it's wrong. But when the DMK did the same, it was fine?' he asked. He cited a 1996 Murasoli article by former Chief Minister Karunanidhi in which the DMK leader wrote about efforts to counter false propaganda against the BJP among minorities. Palaniswami accused the DMK of double standards and attempting to confuse the public. 'The DMK is creating fear and confusion. During Income Tax raids at Anna Arivalayam, they were still negotiating with the BJP,' he alleged. He concluded that CM Stalin's expressions in the Assembly reflected the DMK's anxiety. 'We will forge alliances to win the 2026 elections. Everyone does that. But Stalin's nervousness shows he fears defeat,' he said.
