KFDX team dominates in small market category at Texas Broadcast News Awards
AUSTIN (KFDX/KJTL) — Saturday, April 12, was a big night for those nominated for the Texas Broadcast News Awards. Journalists from stations all over the Lone Star State showed up to see if they were award winners.
President of the Texas Association of Broadcasters Oscar Rodriguez said these awards remind journalists why they got into the business.

'It's really, really important to take the time to look around and see who's just really investing heavily into good journalism, from the daily reporting that people rely on just to know, you know, what to expect on a given day to the in-depth kind of investigative accountability journalism that, that so many stations do,' Rodriguez said.
While several large and medium markets dominated their category, KFDX, for small markets, was nominated for 10 awards and took home eight by the end of the night.
KFDX's general manager, Wayne Reed, said this is a big recognition for our station.
'I am so proud of this team. It's so great to see our work be honored by the Texas Association of Broadcasters. I know we work hard each and every day. Our greatest asset is our people. And I cannot be more proud that the Texas Association of Broadcasters has chosen to recognize this hard work,' Reed said.
Natalie McCain and Curtis Jackson took home the 'Continuing Coverage Award.'
Jalen Wells and Emily Faith brought home the 'Best News Anchor Team Award.'
Josh Hoggard won for 'Specialty and Best Coverage' for his crime and court reports.
MJ Baird won for 'Best Sports Reporter.'
Tobin McDuff took home a whopping three awards for Best Sports Anchor and Sportscaster. He and Curtis Jackson also won for the story about the late Brad Boyd and his battle with cancer, which received the 'Best Sports Story of the Year.'

KFDX News Director Darrell Franklin said these awards are a great way to show respect to the journalists who bring you stories daily.
'It just makes me so proud to be a part of this team. Award after award for KFDX shows how much hard work goes into this all year long, and it's great to see that hard work being rewarded,' Franklin said.
And next year? Well, we hope to bring back even more awards for the coverage we provide to you day in and day out.
