Fort Dorchester's Damond Howard receives the News 2 Cool Teacher award
Fort Dorchester High School students give Visual Arts teacher and Esports coach Damond Howard high scores and say he changed the game when he worked to bring Esports to Fort Dorchester.
As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Mr. Howard receives the News 2 Cool School Teacher award.
An educator for more than twenty years, Mr. Damond Howard, an award-winning, practicing visual artist, is in his fourth year as visual arts teacher at Fort Dorchester High School, and a few years ago, the Awendaw native added a new title, Esports coach. Esports is a new varsity sport with competitive online video games.
Howard started the after-school club at Fort Dorchester, and over two and a half years, he has built the program into a popular extracurricular activity, with a diverse group of students. There is a waiting list. Students work hard to meet eligibility requirements, including maintaining passing grades and no discipline issues. Students are also receiving scholarships to play Esports at their school of choice.
Congratulations, Mr. Howard!
