LSUS stacks on another sweep; Pilots improve to 44-0
SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — On Friday, LSUS baseball broke the NAIA record for the longest win streak, and now the Pilots continue to add on that new record with another victory over University of Houston-Victoria on Saturday.
After outscoring the Jaguars 22-4 in the first two games of the series, Saturday's matchup gave the Pilots more of a challenge.
The two runs both came in the third inning. Ryan Davenport singled up the middle bringing home Cooper Huspen for the first run for the Pilots. Shortly after, Vantrel Reed also had an RBI single, bringing in Davenport for that second run.
While the game may have been a little too close for comfort, the Pilots welcome the late-season challenge.
'Honestly, today as much as we struggled offensively, their guy did a really good job and I mean, a 2-0 ballgame is not bad for us to be in going into the postseason coming up here soon and for us to have to play in another game that's close. We had to pitch our way to it. So, I'm good with it,' head coach Brad Neffendorf said. 'They've continued to find ways to win ballgames.'
The Pilots wrap up the rest of its regular season next weekend with one last series at Jarvis Christian, playing one game on Friday and a double header on Saturday.
