CorSport: ‘Destined to be sold' – Theo to be sacrificed after becoming ‘symbol' of season
CorSport: 'Destined to be sold' – Theo to be sacrificed after becoming 'symbol' of season CorSport: 'Destined to be sold' – Theo to be sacrificed after becoming 'symbol' of season AC Milan are heading for a season without any European football at all, and it will likely force them to make a 'big' sale to plug the financial gap. As Corriere dello Sport reports this morning, there is an unwritten mathematical rule in football, but it usually works: when the points gap is greater than the number of games left to play, it is impossible to think of catching up. Advertisement So, whether it is Bologna or Juventus or any of the other rivals in the running (Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina), Milan – with seven games left to play – can no longer think of competing for fourth place and securing the proceeds from the Champions League. The result: less budget for the new sporting director. Who will it be? Giorgio Furlani is pushing for Tony D'Amico of Atalanta and has flown to the States to meet Gerry Cardinale. The owner of Milan, however, thinks like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and would like to hire Igli Tare. Failure to qualify for the Champions League would mean a failed season. At the beginning of the year, the proclamations of the management, coach and players included the word 'Scudetto', then reduced to fourth place, to conclude with the desperate search for any European spot. The Supercoppa Italiana, won in January in Riyadh a few days after Sergio Conceiçao took over as coach, is certainly not enough to increase the rating for 2024-25. Being ninth place is too much to ignore, and though there is time a late surge up the table seems unlikely. The man to be sacrificed The 'symbol' of Milan's season is Theo Hernandez. Even against Fiorentina, the Frenchman offered the usual performance full of errors. Several times he struggled with Dodo's changes of direction, he was inattentive to off-ball movement and was wasteful when he got into La Viola's box. Advertisement In short, too many technical errors from a single player, and there is one incident in particular that annoyed a large part of the Milan fan base. In the 41st minute, Theo and Dodo had an argument while Gudmundsson passed at close quarters, being allowed to put the ball into a dangerous area. Without the Champions League, the club will not earn the minimum €40m in revenue from participating in the tournament, plus the riches of ticket sales for the four home games at San Siro. Financial stability will allow the Rossoneri to survive the lost proceeds without too many problems, but these will certainly affect the budget for the summer transfer window. It will also impact any resistance to big offers that come in for top players. Theo's name pops up again here: without a renewal (his deal expires in 2026), the full-back is 'destined to be sold'.

CorSport: Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen to battle for Thiaw
CorSport: Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen to battle for Thiaw – the details AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has been subject to some interest from Germany in recent days, and it seems that there will be two battling it out for his signature. This season Thiaw has been quite hit and miss, though recently he has found some consistency in the team, with Sergio Conceiaco picking him quite regularly. It seems this may be the theme for next season, too, with reports suggesting he may not be a starter next season. Advertisement So with this in mind, rumours have suggested that he could move away from Milan in the summer, and there has been some interest already in the German from his home country, as seen by Vincent Kompany watching the defender in midweek. Today, Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) confirms that there is indeed interest from Bayern Munich in the defender, whose contract expires in 2027. Then, there is also interest from Bayer Leverkusen, who are seeking a replacement for Jonathan Tah, who will leave at the end of the season. A bid of more than €25 million will be needed for the Diavolo to consider allowing him to leave this summer, though there should be no difficulty for either club to stump up that figure for a defender who is still only 23 years old.

CorSport: Milan open to significant capital gain as Thiaw ponders Germany return
CorSport: Milan open to significant capital gain as Thiaw ponders Germany return Malick Thiaw has ended up on the radar of Bayer Leverkusen and for AC Milan, a potential sale would result in a significant capital gain, as highlighted by a report. After what was a 2023-24 season filled with ups and downs for Thiaw, he has certainly recovered this campaign and is currently one of the undisputed starters in the starting eleven. At the age of 23, though, he still has a lot of potential that he hasn't tapped into yet. Advertisement According to today's edition of Corriere dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, Thiaw is one of the most followed Milan players on the mercato. He cost the Rossoneri around €9m in 2022 as he joined from Schalke 04, and now with Bayer Leverkusen knocking on the door, he's valued at €25-30m. In other words, there is a significant capital gain to be made and Milan are keeping all options open, especially now with Champions League qualification being uncertain. The contract will expire in 2027 and as things stand, no progress has been made in the renewal talks, which could prompt a move. Thiaw also wants to feature in the World Cup for Germany next year, so a move back to his home country – and playing for one of the best teams in the league – could help him achieve that.

CorSport: Milan will buy Walker in the summer – why they are convinced already
CorSport: Milan will buy Walker in the summer – why they are convinced already CorSport: Milan will buy Walker in the summer – why they are convinced already AC Milan have already decided on their first summer signing, before the arrival of a new head coach and/or sporting director, a telling sign. When Kyle Walker arrived in January, there was a very mixed reaction. Some believed that it was just another stepping stone, whilst others believed it was an option that Milan could, and did, rightly take advantage of. Whilst he has not been the difference between the Champions League and nothing, the Englishman has already confirmed his place as the right-back for the rest of the season, and his biggest role is still happening. Advertisement The former Manchester City defender was brought largely for his experience and leadership qualities, which will continue to be massively needed as the Rossoneri step into a new era and project this summer. With leaders set to leave, there is a need for a restructuring at squad level too, and Walker can drive standards, whilst playing a valuable role in the team. So, Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) states that the decision has already been made to sign him permanently for the €5 million fee agreed during the January mercato. Put shortly, he has already convinced everyone, and action will definitely be taken.
