Man found dead Sunday in fire at Fresno home, investigation underway
An investigation is underway Sunday afternoon after a two-alarm fire claimed the life of a man at a home in Fresno.
Crews from the Fresno Fire Department responded to the first alarm at noon in the 2000 block of Cornelia Avenue, between McKinley and Clinton avenues.
When crews arrived, they found an outbuilding behind a home that was heavily engulfed, as well as vehicles and other buildings around it, Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Tim Fulmer said.
Fulmer said crews were able to extinguish the fire, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby neighborhoods.
Fulmer said a neighbor told them someone 'was possibly living in a trailer that was inside of a shop in the back where the fire actually started.'
Crews put water inside the structure and found a man who was pronounced dead.
'The fire was much more extended,' Fulmer said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours, Fulmer said.
