Nebraska's right-handed ace is one of the more decorated pitchers in NCAA softball history. The Nebraska native was a freshman phenom, posting a 22-1 record with a 1.09 ERA, the latter of which ranked sixth in the nation. Bahl followed that up with an even stronger sophomore season, which consisted of a 7-0 record and a 0.18 ERA in seven NCAA Tournament games in 2023. Following her 2023 season in Norman, Oklahoma, Bahl left Patty Gasso's squad to transfer to Nebraska. She ended her time as a Sooner by being named the Most Outstanding Player at the WCWS and an NFCA First Team All-American. She ranks second in ERA in Oklahoma history at 0.99. Bahl missed all but the opening game of the Cornhuskers' 2024 season with a torn ACL. She returned in 2025, notching a 23-6 record in 34 appearances (28 starts) and 174 1/3 innings of work. In her first full regular season at Nebraska, Bahl has put together a National Player of the Year resume, both at the plate and inside the circle. At the plate, Bahl hit .458 in the regular season while becoming the first Husker to record at least 15 doubles and 15 home runs in the same season. In the circle, Bahl posted the lowest ERA in the Big Ten of 1.57 in 174 1/3 innings while also leading the league and ranking in the top 10 nationally in strikeouts (254) and opponent batting average (.156). On May 9, the Big Ten named Bahl the conference's player and pitcher of the year, the first time in Big Ten history that a player took home both awards in the same season. As noted in the Big Ten's news release, Bahl joins Michigan's Sara Griffin and Nikki Nemitz and Minnesota's Sara Groenewegen as one of four players in the conference's history to earn both honors in their careers. "Coming home and playing in Nebraska has been just the dream," Bahl said in a different pre-recorded interview that was featured in the Big Ten's clip announcing her awards. "Way more special than I could have ever imagined." REQUIRED READING: Who will make Women's College World Series? NCAA softball tournament picks, predictions Jordy Bahl transfer from Oklahoma to Nebraska After winning two national championships at Oklahoma, which included being named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 WCWS, Bahl announced she was leaving the Sooners program after her sophomore season — a transfer that shocked the sport. Bahl announced her decision to transfer to Nebraska on June 16, 2023, citing homesickness as the catalyst for her decision to return to the Cornhusker State to play at Nebraska and in the Big Ten. "I am excited to return home and be Jordy Bahl the softball player, but more importantly the person," Bahl wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). CFP adds Troy Dannen, Jeff Long to selection committee
May 5 - The College Football Playoff selection committee announced on Monday that Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen and inaugural selection committee chair and longtime athletics administrator Jeff Long are joining the board. Dannen is filling the vacancy of Damon Evans, the former Maryland athletic director who is now at SMU in the same position. Long, who will serve for one year, replaces Steve Weiberg, who resigned for personal reasons. Dannen, in his second year as the Cornhuskers' AD, served on the NCAA Constitution Committee and the Division I Transformation Committee from 2021-23. He has also been an executive committee member of the Football Oversight Committee and a chair of the NCAA Football Competition Committee. Before taking over at Nebraska, Dannen held the same title at Washington. Long returns to the CFP selection committee after serving from 2014-18, which included two seasons (2014-15) as the initial chairman. Long worked in college athletics as a coach and administrator for four decades, including as AD at Eastern Kentucky (1998-2001), Pitt (2003-07), Arkansas (2008-17) and Kansas (2018-21). In March, former Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio and four other new members were named to the 13-member selection committee responsible for ranking the top 25 teams up for consideration for the 12-team field this fall. Middle Tennessee AD Chris Massaro, former Ole Miss All-America tight end Wesley Walls and former ESPN college football reporter Ivan Masiel are also part of the incoming group. Baylor AD Mack Rhoades will serve as the committee chair, replacing Michigan AD Warde Manuel, who is leaving the committee. Former Oregon State and Nebraska coach Mike Riley, Virginia AD Carla Williams, former Nevada AD and coach Chris Ault, Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek, former Arizona State All-America offensive lineman Randall McDaniel and Miami (Ohio) AD David Sayler return from last season. Former Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe, former Nebraska offensive lineman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Will Shields, former sportswriter Kelly Whiteside and Navy AD Chet Gladchuk, whose terms have expired, will be replaced by the new members, who begin their three-year terms this spring. --Field Level Media

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule replaces spring game with 'The Husker Games'
Nebraska coach Matt Rhule called an audible on his plan to entirely eliminate full-pad scrimmaging on the day of what normally would be the Cornhuskers' spring game. Rhule said Thursday the April 26 event replacing the spring game would include an undetermined amount of live scrimmaging for mostly third- and fourth-string players. Rhule last month became the first coach to announce an end to his school's traditional spring game, citing concerns about other teams scouting his players in a televised scrimmage and possibly poaching them. He said he wants to give another opportunity to borderline players who are trying to make the 105-man roster in the fall and also to players who already have been told they won't be on the team in the fall but need practice film to show other schools if they want to keep playing. "The guys who are cemented in their spots won't play," Rhule said. "Some guys might ask to play. Some are 2s but they want to prove they're a 1." The event replacing the spring game is called the Husker Games and will feature skills competitions and 7-on-7 games with current and former players. A women's flag football exhibition also is scheduled. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
