How people are preparing their homes for Masters and the remainder of the year post-Helene
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – With the Azaleas blooming, you know it's close to Masters week. And while some are preparing as much as possible, others are still dealing with the remaining hurricane damage.
It's an issue many throughout the CSRA have faced over the past six months. One family who typically rents for the Masters shares how it has impacted them all 52 weeks out of the year.
Ann Mcrae and her family have lived in this home in this neighborhood for the past 33 years.
'This year it'll be a little different because we won't be able to rent, and we knew this quite– immediately after the storm…'
The leftover damage from the storm, it has forced her family to live in just certain parts of Mcrae's home.
'We lost a master bedroom, and we lost a full bathroom upstairs, we lost our deck, and most of our–we have a screen porch– all of that was damaged. And we had about six or seven trees on the house, two through the house…'
The Mcrae's are not the only ones, who rent their homes each year, experiencing damage. Local rental home companies have homeowners who needed to put in extra work into their Masters home preps.
'It's definitely been busy, crunch time,' Corporate Quarters' Director of Operations and Events Kelly Starr said.
And with one week away, Corporate Quarters' Kelly Starr says homes are as prepared as possible to welcome Masters Patrons.
'Homeowners are definitely feeling some pressure to get everything done and for their home to be beautiful and comfortable for Masters.'
'It would be fun to see the activity going on in the neighborhood, the comings and goings. Seeing if anybody famous happens to rent around and, so anyway, it will be interesting and we'll be able to go to the tournament,' Mcrae said.
Still, Mcrae says her and her family are blessed because they know it could be a lot worse.
