Dog killed and three people injured in crash with stolen car near Inverness
A dog has been killed in a crash involving a stolen car near Inverness as three people were rushed to hospital. Three people have been rushed to hospital and a dog has died following a serious crash involving a stolen car near Inverness. Emergency crews raced to the A96 at Newton of Petty at 8.45am on Friday July 18 after receiving reports of a serious collision involving a stolen car from the Buckie area. The 50-year-old female driver of a red Vauxhall Corsa was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The 74-year-old female passenger of a black Volvo XC60 was also taken by air ambulance to the same hospital, while the 74-year-old male driver was taken by road ambulance to Raigmore Hospital. A dog travelling in the Corsa died at the scene. The A96 was closed for crash investigation work to carried out and re-opened around 6.30pm. Enquiries so far have established that the Corsa was stolen from the Great Western Road area of Buckie around 7.30am the same morning. Sergeant Ewan Calder said: 'Our enquiries into the crash and the events leading up to it are ongoing and I would like to thank everyone who has come forward and spoken to officers so far. 'In particular we would like to speak to anyone with information relating to the theft of the Corsa and also if you were driving in the area between the time it was stolen and the time of the crash to please check any dash-cam footage. 'If you have captured anything that could assist with our enquiries into the theft and the crash and have not spoken to us already then please get in touch.' Earlier today, in a separate incident, we reported that a car burst into flames after it was "abandoned" following a crash in Glasgow. Police spotted the vehicle "allegedly driving at speed" along Govan Road in the early hours of Friday, July 18. The vehicle later crashed on Harmony Row, with officers saying three occupants ran from the wreckage, reports Glasgow Live. The vehicle then caught fire, however police confirmed there were no injuries. An image from the scene shows massive flames coming from the scene where emergency crews raced to. A 21-year-old man was later traced by officers nearby on Roseneath Street. He was arrested and charged and appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday. Police say enquiries remain ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'At around 1.35am on Friday, 18 July, 2025 officers on patrol observed a vehicle allegedly driving at speed on Govan Road. ' Officers traced the vehicle which had crashed on Harmony Row. Three people from the car made off on foot from police. 'The vehicle caught fire when abandoned. Nobody was injured as a result. 'A 21-year-old man was traced by officers a short distance away on Roseneath Street and arrested. He has been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday, 18 July. 'Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.' A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.39am on Friday, 18 July, to reports of one vehicle on fire on Govan Road, Glasgow. "Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene, where firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one car. Cops launched a major investigation after Mr Blackwood was found fatally injured in a flat in Glenmuir Place, Ayr, on the evening of Saturday, July 5. Detectives locked down the residential area as forensic teams combed the property for clues. 'Around 8.10pm on Saturday, 5 July, we were called to a report of a man found seriously injured in a flat in Glenmuir Place. 'Mark was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing.' Officers are still urging anyone with information to come forward as the probe continues. It comes following another tragedy in Ayrshire, when a 14-year-old boy died after being struck by a car. Mercy crews raced to the A9 at Carrbridge, in the Highlands, after the alarm was raised around 2.20pm yesterday. The smash involved a car and a HGV at the junction with the A938. The driver of the car, a 47-year-old man, was taken by road ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment. M54 closed after lorry crashes and overturns as drivers hit with two-hour delays & SIX miles of traffic The passengers, an eight-year-old girl and four-year-old boy, were rushed to the same hospital by air ambulance. All remain in a stable condition. The driver of the HGV was not injured. Following crash investigations, the road reopened around 11pm.
