Snowflake boosts AI with real-time licensed content access
Snowflake has introduced Cortex Knowledge Extensions, allowing enterprises to supplement their AI agents with real-time, licensed content from third-party publishers, with Stack Overflow among the first partners to join the Snowflake Marketplace. The introduction of Cortex Knowledge Extensions enables enterprise customers to enrich their AI applications and agents with updated, reliable content from publishers such as Stack Overflow, USA TODAY, and Packt. This approach ensures proper attribution and licensing of content, distinguishing it from other systems that use scraped material without consent from original publishers. According to Snowflake, this new capability is designed to address challenges faced by both enterprises and publishers. Enterprises often struggle to gain access to timely external information for their AI systems, limiting accuracy and depth of insight. Meanwhile, publishers are seeking a secure and fair way to allow their content to be used by enterprise AI, with assurance of both compensation and control. "Building powerful AI apps and agents at scale hinges on enterprises having access to a wealth of internal and external data that adds rich context to AI outputs. Snowflake is raising the bar on enterprise-wide collaboration to make it even easier for customers to fuel their AI initiatives with AI-ready data and harness the power of agentic apps — regardless of whether the data and apps reside within their own four walls or come from trusted third-party sources. Our latest innovations enable teams to turn possibilities into reality with data and AI, all without worrying about security and governance risk," Prasanna Krishanan, Head of Apps & Collaboration and Horizon at Snowflake, commented on the launch. With Cortex Knowledge Extensions, publishers are able to list their content, such as news articles, textbooks, and research papers, on the Snowflake Marketplace. Enterprises can then purchase this content and integrate it into their AI-powered apps and agents, including Cortex Agents, Cortex Search, and the soon-to-be-available Snowflake Intelligence. This functionality enables AI systems to provide responses informed by timely and relevant information while allowing publishers to monetise their intellectual property under agreed licensing terms. The mechanism for delivering content through Cortex Knowledge Extensions relies on retrieval-augmented generation and is underpinned by Snowflake's Zero-ETL Sharing functionality. This setup empowers publishers to revoke access to content if necessary, while always displaying clear attribution and links to the original source, thereby enhancing reliability and provenance. Alongside Cortex Knowledge Extensions, Snowflake has introduced Semantic Model Sharing, which is currently in private preview. Semantic Model Sharing allows enterprises to integrate and interact with AI-ready structured data within their Snowflake Cortex AI applications — whether the data originates from internal sources or third-party providers. The use of semantic models helps ensure consistency in how data and business concepts are defined and applied across different systems, contributing to more trustworthy and accurate AI outputs. By mapping internal data to standardised semantic models, enterprises can accelerate insights, support more uniform decision-making, and access industry-standard metrics while maintaining governance and version control. Snowflake reports that these advances are intended to eliminate the manual effort required to create semantic models internally, while supporting high-quality, context-rich, and accurate AI responses. Users can directly interact with their data using Semantic Model Sharing in Cortex AI, including Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents, and Snowflake Intelligence. In addition to content and model sharing, Snowflake is adding support for Agentic Native Apps in its marketplace. This feature provides customers with access to third-party agentic applications, which can securely combine provider and consumer data within the enterprise's governance framework. Data remains within the customer's environment while agents perform tasks such as portfolio management and optimisation, using proprietary algorithms and datasets. Currently, Snowflake Marketplace connects enterprises with over 750 providers, offering more than 3,000 live data, application, and AI products. The introduction of Agentic Native Apps is intended to give providers new ways to distribute and monetise their offerings while allowing enterprises to drive additional value from their data without compromising privacy or security.

Snowflake expands Marketplace with AI-ready news, data apps
Snowflake has introduced new agentic products and AI-ready data offerings on its Marketplace, enabling enterprises to enrich artificial intelligence applications with real-time content from prominent news, research, and market data providers. The company's new Cortex Knowledge Extensions, set to become generally available soon, allow organisations to supplement their AI apps and agents with unstructured data from third-party providers while protecting intellectual property rights and ensuring proper attribution. This service includes access to business articles and content from The Associated Press, which can be used to enhance the accuracy and utility of results generated by AI systems. Also available through Cortex Knowledge Extensions are real-time news feeds from USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Network, in addition to information from other publishers such as CB Insights, Packt, and Stack Overflow. Snowflake states that these developments help provide enterprises with access to a broad range of external, licensed content, which is often missing from current enterprise AI systems. "Building powerful AI apps and agents at scale hinges on enterprises having access to not only high-quality and relevant internal and external data, but also the business semantics of that data, in order to deliver trusted AI results. Snowflake is raising the bar on enterprise-wide collaboration, making it even easier for customers to fuel their AI initiatives with AI-ready data and leverage Agentic Native Apps that they can bring to their data, without copying or moving data. Our latest innovations enable teams to turn possibilities into reality with data and AI, all without worrying about security and governance risk," Prasanna Krishnan, Head of Apps & Collaboration and Horizon at Snowflake, said. The marketplace additions also address the needs of licensed content owners seeking to avoid unauthorised use of their material for AI training purposes. Cortex Knowledge Extensions function as a marketplace, providing content owners and publishers such as The Associated Press and USA TODAY Network with opportunities to monetise their content for enterprise AI use through negotiated licensing terms. This system ensures that publishers are compensated for their content and that enterprises can utilise proprietary knowledge in their AI applications. "The USA TODAY Network is the largest local-to-national publishing and digital media organization in the country, with 195 million average monthly unique visitors relying on our trusted content to stay connected to the stories and cultural moments happening in their communities. We are thrilled to join the Snowflake Marketplace among the first news publishers to provide our trusted content for enterprise AI use in an equitable manner that respects our intellectual property rights while ensuring compensation for the value created for end users. This marks an important step forward in establishing a mutually beneficial ecosystem for AI companies, enterprises, content owners, and publishers to strategically partner, while driving innovation forward," Renn Turiano, Chief Consumer and Product Officer at Gannett | USA TODAY Network, commented on their participation. Cortex Knowledge Extensions operate through retrieval-augmented generation and rely on Snowflake's Zero-ETL Sharing capability, permitting content owners to revoke access at any time. All accessed content is displayed with clear attribution and links to original sources, which Snowflake states will increase both reliability and accuracy in AI-powered outputs. Alongside these offerings, Snowflake has introduced sharing of Semantic Models (currently in private preview). This feature allows organisations to integrate structured, AI-ready data within their Snowflake Cortex AI tools, drawing upon both internal datasets and those provided by third parties such as CARTO, CB Insights, Deutsche Börse, IPinfo, and truestar. According to the company, sharing semantic models helps eliminate the development time required to create structured definitions for tabular data, supporting trustworthy AI responses and enabling natural language interaction with business information. Enterprises can access and share data with semantic models through an Internal Marketplace or through the broader Snowflake Marketplace, maintaining governance and version control. By aligning internal data with shared business definitions, organisations can promote consistency and accelerate insights without the need for continuous support from data engineers or scientists. Snowflake has also announced Agentic Native Apps on its Marketplace. These are interoperable applications that can deliver standalone agentic experiences or function as components in apps built with Cortex Agents or Snowflake Intelligence. Providers can build, monetise, and distribute these apps on the platform, which enterprises can then discover, install, and purchase to advance their AI capabilities with managed governance. The company's Marketplace now connects enterprises to over 750 providers, offering more than 3,000 data, applications, and agentic products as of mid-2025.

Snowflake launches AI agents to ease enterprise data access
Snowflake has introduced new agentic AI features and expanded its enterprise-grade AI capabilities, aiming to enhance data analysis and machine learning (ML) workflows for businesses in Canada and worldwide. Snowflake Intelligence, set to enter public preview soon, provides business users and data professionals with a unified conversational interface driven by intelligent data agents. This development enables users to pose natural language questions and quickly access actionable insights from both structured and unstructured data. The company has also announced Data Science Agent, currently in private preview, which acts as an agentic companion designed to assist data scientists by automating routine ML model development tasks. These additions are intended to streamline AI and ML workflows, widen access to data within enterprises, and remove the technical barriers that traditionally slow business decision-making through natural language interactions within Snowflake. "AI agents are a major leap from traditional automation or chatbots, but in order to deploy them at scale, businesses need an AI-ready information ecosystem. This means enterprises must be able to unite data silos, maintain enterprise-grade security and compliance, and have easy ways to adopt and build agents. Snowflake Intelligence breaks down these barriers by democratizing the ability to extract meaningful intelligence from an organization's entire enterprise data estate — structured and unstructured data alike. This isn't just about accessing data, it's about empowering every employee to make faster, smarter decisions with all of their business context at their fingertips," Baris Gultekin, Head of AI at Snowflake, said, commenting on the evolution of AI agents. Organisations frequently face difficulties in decision-making due to fragmented data governance, separate data formats, and a lack of technical analysts. Snowflake Intelligence addresses these issues by enabling business teams and non-technical users to interact conversationally with their enterprise data, all without needing to write code. Snowflake Intelligence operates within the user's existing Snowflake environment, inheriting all established security controls, data masking, and governance policies. It consolidates data from multiple sources, including Snowflake, Box, Google Drive, Workday, and Zendesk, via Snowflake Openflow, allowing users to retrieve insights from spreadsheets, documents, images, and databases simultaneously. Data agents can create visualisations and help users act on insights through natural language prompts. The platform also provides access to external knowledge via Cortex Knowledge Extensions available on Snowflake Marketplace, with content provided by sources such as CB Insights, Packt, Stack Overflow, The Associated Press, and USA TODAY, to add further depth and context to responses. The system is powered by large language models from Anthropic and OpenAI and is built on Cortex Agents, currently in public preview. All are presented through a no-code interface that seeks to ensure transparency and explainability in the use of AI. "By integrating Claude's reasoning capabilities directly into Snowflake's platform, we're further eliminating the traditional barriers between data and insights. Business users can now have natural conversations with their enterprise data, while data scientists can automate complex ML workflows — all through simple natural language interactions. This demonstrates how Claude's advanced reasoning can democratize AI while maintaining the enterprise-grade security and governance that organizations require," Michael Gerstenhaber, VP of Product Management at Anthropic, said, highlighting the integration's potential. Snowflake Intelligence is aimed at moving organisations away from reliance on analytics teams for insights, enabling broader employee access to data. "At WHOOP, our mission is to unlock human performance and healthspan, and data is central to everything we do. Snowflake Intelligence marks a big step forward in our ability to be a data-first organisation, ensuring that all employees can access insights without relying on analytics teams as the intermediary. By eliminating the technical barriers to gleaning the insights we need for decision-making, our analytics teams can now shift from manual data retrieval tasks to more strategic, predictive, and value-generating work," Matt Luizzi, Sr. Director of Business Analytics at WHOOP, said. To support data scientists, Snowflake's Data Science Agent automates time-consuming tasks linked to ML workflows. The agent, also using Anthropic's Claude, segments ML workflow challenges into separate steps such as data analysis, preparation, feature engineering, and training. It leverages advanced reasoning, contextual understanding, and action execution to generate validated ML pipelines that can be run from a Snowflake Notebook. Users can iterate with suggested improvements or follow-ups, helping to reduce time spent on experimentation or debugging. Currently, more than 5,200 customers, including companies such as BlackRock, Luminate, and Penske Logistics, are using Snowflake Cortex AI as part of their business operations. Snowflake is introducing several new AI features, such as enhanced document processing, batch semantic search, and the new Cortex AISQL, now available in public preview, aiming to facilitate analysis of multi-modal data at scale and assist teams that may lack extensive AI engineering skills.
