81-year-old with dementia vanishes in CA. ‘Superstar bloodhound' saves the day

When an 81-year-old California woman with dementia was nowhere to be found, it was up to a 'superstar bloodhound' to save the day. The Santa Rosa Police Department got a report about the woman who went missing at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, police said in a May 21 Facebook post. Officers scoured the Oakmont area for the missing woman, but 'despite their best efforts, they couldn't find her,' police said. 'That's when Dolly, the superstar bloodhound, stepped in,' police said. The K-9 joined the Cotati Police Department in October 2023 and 'specializes in finding missing individuals,' Cotati police said in a Facebook post. Dolly searched the area for the missing woman with her handler, police said. 'With her keen nose and determination, Dolly tracked the missing' woman down just six doors away from her house, police said. The woman was found safe and returned home, police said. 'Thank you, Dolly and Cotati PD, for another successful mission,' police wrote. Users on Facebook were also quick to applaud Dolly with some calling her a 'hero.' 'Wow. That's amazing!' one user commented. 'Good girl, Dolly.' 'Love this! That's a very good girl,' another wrote. Santa Rosa is about a 55-mile drive north from San Francisco.
