Interpol President Reiterates Morocco's Ability to Tackle Security Challenges

Rabat – Interpol President Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi has offered a fresh commendation of Morocco's security efforts, tackling both local and regional challenges and threats. He made his remarks on Friday in El Jadida at the official ceremony of the 6th National Security Open Day, which has programming that will continue until May 21. Al Raisi described Morocco's security system as advanced, efficient, professional, and committed to respecting human rights, adding that the North African country demonstrated its ability to confront escalating security challenges. Al Raisi also shed light on King Mohammed VI's efforts and determination to consistently give special care and attention to bolstering security efforts locally and on regional and international levels. Morocco has been an active member of Interpol for nearly seven decades, contributing to regional security in coordination with international partners. As a member, Morocco has long offered important intelligence assisting Interpol to arrest high-profile criminals active in different drug and human trafficking networks. As part of this cooperation, Morocco assisted several countries in dismantling terror networks and arresting terrorist. Al Raisi said the North African country has played 'a key role in supporting numerous global security projects and initiatives,' noting that Morocco's efforts have significantly contributed to strengthening international security cooperation mechanisms, particularly in the fight against migrant smuggling networks, human trafficking, drug trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.' The Interpol official recalled that Morocco's Police Commissioner Mhamed Dkhissi was appointed to Interpol Vice President for Africa, noting that this reflects the growing international confidence in the professionalism of the North African country's security personnel. He also remarked on Morocco's hosting of the 93rd Interpol General Assembly in Marrakech, noting that the event represents a 'culmination of Morocco's long-term efforts to modernize, reform, and continuously upgrade its national security system.' For his part, the Secretary of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, Mohamed Ben Ali Koman, said Morocco's security services made significant strides in 'perfect harmony with the country's acceleration development.' Iraq: Expected visits by Arab interior ministers to enhance security cooperation

The Ministry of Interior confirmed, on Monday, that the coming period will witness official visits by Arab ministers to conclude agreements that enhance security cooperation, noting that the Council of Arab Interior Ministers praised, during its recent meeting in Tunisia in the presence of Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shimmari, Baghdad's cooperation in the file of combating drugs and exchanging information. "The General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers appreciated the great cooperation shown by Iraq in the file of combating drugs, whether through international coordination or through internal measures taken to pursue drug smugglers, international dealers, and promoters," said the spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA. He pointed out that "the coming period will witness official visits by several Arab interior ministers to Baghdad; to conclude agreements that contribute to enhancing security cooperation, especially in the field of exchanging information and expertise." "Iraq was a pioneer in this field, as it hosted two security conferences in Baghdad with the participation of several Arab countries, and participated in 230 international workshops on security issues," said Miri regarding Iraq's role in the field of security information exchange, stressed. Miri also touched on the issue of cybersecurity and digital crimes, noting that "Iraq reviewed its experiences and achievements in combating cybercrime before the countries participating in the meeting and the progress achieved in this field during the past years." Tunisian President Kais Saied received H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, along with Arab Interior Ministers at Carthage Palace on the occasion of their participation in the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in the Tunisian capital. His Highness conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Tunisian President, expressing his appreciation for the warm reception and generous hospitality. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed led the UAE delegation to the session, which brought together Interior Ministers from across the Arab world, along with senior security officials. Discussions focused on key security initiatives, including the draft of the 11th phase plan for the Arab strategy to combat illicit drug use and psychotropic substances, the 7th phase plan for the Arab civil protection (civil defence) strategy, and the 2nd phase plan for the Arab strategy to combat cybercrime. The agenda also featured a review of the Secretary-General's report on the activities of the General Secretariat between the 41st and 42nd sessions, as well as the report of the President of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. Additionally, the Council examined recommendations from conferences and meetings held under the General Secretariat in 2024 and assessed the outcomes of joint meetings with Arab and international organisations, along with other priority topics. Upon his arrival in Tunisia, Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan was welcomed by Khaled Al-Nouri, Minister of Interior of Tunisia; Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Koman, Secretary-General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council; Dr. Iman Ahmed Al-Salami, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia; and several senior officials. Saudi Minister of Interior and Honorary President of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz underlined on Sunday the importance of boosting Arab security cooperation. Speaking at the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunis, he stressed the need for integrated efforts to combat crime, monitor evolving threats, and develop a comprehensive security strategy to address shared challenges. Prince Abdulaziz conveyed the Saudi leadership's greetings and hopes for stronger Arab security collaboration. He thanked Tunisian President Kais Saied for hosting the meeting, the Tunisian people for their hospitality and Interior Minister Khaled Nouri for ensuring the event's success. Highlighting the council's significance, he stated: 'Our council represents the depth of Arab security alliances, built on trust and cooperation, as we navigate rapid changes, crises, and emerging challenges. Our security today is founded on past achievements and present capabilities to confront current and future threats.' Officials at the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunis. The council awarded the Prince Naif Medal for Arab Security (First Class) to Jordan's King Abdullah II and Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in recognition of their efforts to strengthen Arab security. Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Abdullah Al-Faraya and Omani Interior Minister Hamoud bin Faisal Al-Busaidi accepted the awards on their behalf. TUNIS: The Council of Arab Interior Ministers has awarded His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik the 'Prince Naif Arab Security Medal of Excellent Class', the loftiest Arab security medal. The medal was conferred on His Majesty the Sultan in appreciation of His Majesty's constructive role in consolidating bonds of fraternity and cooperation among Arab countries and backing peace and stability in the region. The medal was received by Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidy, Minister of Interior, who is heading the Sultanate of Oman's delegation at the 42nd meeting of the Arab Interior Ministers, held in Tunisia on Sunday. Al Busaidy said in a statement to Oman News Agency that this high-status medal embodies great recognition for the efforts of His Majesty the Sultan in rallying stands to address security challenges, with full wisdom and proactiveness. He noted that the gesture expresses deep acclaim for His Majesty the Sultan's endeavours to support the national, regional and international security systems. He added that, 'This honour enhances the Sultanate of Oman's pioneering position within the Arab security action,' adding that the Sultanate of Oman will continue to back every effort that enhances security integration among Arab brethren and achieves the Arab people's aspirations to live in peace and dignity". Al Nouri underlined his country's keenness to support all initiatives aimed to strengthen the bonds of cooperation and Arab action in all fields, notably in the security field. Dr Mohammed bin Ali Kuman, Secretary-General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, said in a speech that 2024 saw good progress in security action within the purview of the Arab Interior Ministers Council and its affiliate bodies. He added that the Secretariat-General of Arab Interior Ministers Council introduced necessary measures to enhance efforts towards the prevention of drug abuse, to spare the Arab societies the dire consequences of related action. The ministerial meeting discussed other matters related to enhancing the intactness of joint Arab security cooperation and coordinating security policies among member states to confront current challenges like terrorism and organised crime. The meeting also touched on means of exchanging expertise in the field of cybersecurity and enhancing security and stability in the region. The meeting discussed the projects of the 11th phased plan of the Arab Strategy to Combat the Illicit Use of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, the 7th phased plan of the Arab Strategy for Civil Protection (Civil Defence) and the draft version of the second phased plan of the Arab Strategy to Confront Cybersecurity Crimes. The meeting was attended by Margarida Blasco, Minister of Interior of the Portuguese Republic. The meeting was attended by Arab Interior Ministers, representatives of the GCC, the Arab Maghreb Union, the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Europol.
