Winsford United are champions of North West Counties League First Division South

THEY'VE done it! Winsford United are champions. Thanks to their 25th league victory of the season at home against Cheadle Heath Nomads tonight they can no longer be caught at the top of North West Counties Football League First Division South. So with two games of the campaign remaining at home to Ashville on Saturday and then away to Alsager a week later, the trophy and automatic promotion are theirs. 🏆🏆🏆 — Winsford United FC (@WinsfordUnited) April 1, 2025 In their first term under the guidance of joint managers Dean Jones and Dom Johnson, the title success is testament to the way the squad has come together and worked hard for one another. For much of 2024/25, being at the summit when it matters the most has been a two-horse race between Blues and Stafford Town. But the Barton Stadium boys have finished the strongest and shown their dominance with only two defeats since the action got going back in July, 2024. Congratulations @dmakavelib @DeanJones90 & everyone connected to your club. Fully deserved 👏🏻🙌🏻. Enjoy your night, from us all at Barnton 🖤💙. — Barnton AFC (@barntonfc) April 1, 2025 Congratulations guys! What a season!!!! 👏💙 — Vicki England (@VickiEngland74) April 1, 2025 COYBs! What a season! Well done! It's been a long time coming as a long time Winsford fan, but we couldn't be prouder! Congratulations! — Amy Whitmore (@aellistaylor) April 1, 2025 Congratulations fellas 🏆 — Middlewich Town FC (@MiddlewichFC) April 1, 2025 Over the past few weeks it has been a case of when, not if, Blues would clinch pole position. In the end it was settled in style at Barton Stadium in front of almost 500 fans, a 25th successive game unbeaten in the league. Striker Matty Birchall scored early in each half to put his side in command and Blues were never going to lose from that position. His first, after eight minutes, was an exquisite finish as he sent a lofted ball over the keeper and into the back of the net! Four minutes into the second period he flicked a header past the keeper. Ollie Pope was on hand to slot home the rebound after the visiting keeper Ford parried Kal Boyle's shot into his path in the 71st minute. And then five minutes later skipper Steve Jenyons rolled the ball into the back of the net to wrap up the 4-0 success.
