Kansas City sets teen curfew in hopes to boost summer safety
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Teens throughout the metro will have to follow a curfew starting on Friday and lasting until the final Sunday of September.
The purpose of this ordinance is to decrease unsupervised youth activity in late-night hours and to improve safety in crowded entertainment districts during peak months.

For individuals under the age of 18, the curfew is 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The rule applies to all minors within the following entertainment districts:
18th & Vine District
Central Business District
Country Club Plaza
Westport Shopping District
Zona Rosa Shopping District

Minors are allowed in the districts during curfew hours if they are:
With a parent/guardian
On an emergency errand
Returning from a school event or recreational activity
Returning from a job
Attending or traveling to/from an activity protected by First Amendment rights
Traveling through the city (interstate or between nearby cities)
At a city-approved event allowing minors
There is also a citywide curfew through the summer set between the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for those under 16.
Parents or guardians who allow their children to break the curfew risk a $500 fine and family counseling. Minors will not be criminally charged but may be arrested by police until released to a guardian or until 6 a.m.
