Strong storms damage Canton Trade Days, take roofs off nearby homes: Sheriff
The Brief Canton has been left with damage after strong storms swept through the area on Sunday. Included in the damaged areas the Canton Trade Days market. CANTON, Texas - Strong winds and heavy rains caused damage at Canton Trade Days and surrounding areas on Sunday. According to county officials, the widespread damage has been largely cleared, and there are no injuries reported. FOX 4 visited Canton Trade Days following the reports of storm damage, and found that trees were toppled, power lines were downed, and many booths and walkways at Trade Days had been damaged and flooded. According to Van Zandt County Sheriff Kevin Bridger, most damage in the area has been cleared, and no injuries have been reported. Bridger reported trees down in the area, roof leaks at the county jail, roofs torn off homes and trees downed across roadways. The sheriff says FM 859 was closed after the storm, and there are some remaining power outages in the city. Bridger also says some businesses and other structures were damaged. The Brief A 58-year-old man was hit by a car and killed on Friday while standing outside his truck near Hwy. 175 and Municipal Street in Dallas. The person who hit him drove off and didn't stop to help. Law enforcement officials are now looking for the driver of a 2009-2013 charcoal gray Toyota Corolla with front passenger side damage. DALLAS - Law enforcement officials are searching for the driver of a grey Toyota Corolla following a deadly hit-and-run crash. What we know The crash happened this past Friday night on eastbound U.S. Highway 175 at Municipal Street. Dallas County Sheriff's deputies found 58-year-old Bonifacio Lozano lying in the right lane of the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators now believe Lozano had pulled over after exiting and was standing outside his truck. He was struck by a 2009-2013 charcoal grey Toyota Corolla. The car's driver kept going and never stopped to help. What we don't know Investigators are still trying to identify the hit-and-run driver. His or her car now likely has damage to the front passenger side and a missing right mirror. The sheriff's office shared a picture of a similar vehicle indicating where the damage might be.
