GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The week is ending on a high note! Temperatures are expected to reach the mid seventies today, with tomorrow almost hitting the eighties. Tonight, conditions will remain clear. Temperatures will get down to the mid forties, with only the slightest of breezes in the Grand Valley throughout the day. However, a shift in the weather is coming Saturday evening, so be prepared for a rainy start to next and thunderstorm activity will be more isolated across the southern mountains of Colorado this afternoon as drier and warmer air takes hold. Another weak disturbance and increasing moisture aloft will lift into the area Saturday afternoon and bring an uptick of showers and thunderstorms to the southern third of the County Watch Area. A bigger more impactful system arrives Sunday and beyond, bringing cooler temperatures and widespread precipitation to start the work week. High elevation snow and widespread shower and thunderstorm activity is expected well into early next coming from the north are not expected to hit the southern Colorado mountains this afternoon. Temperatures will be higher than average as dry air and sunny skies barrel down on the region. As the system that is protecting western Colorado slowly gets overtaken by the closed low coming in from the Pacific Northwest, a shift in conditions will cause some heavy potential for showers and thunderstorms to kick off Sunday and Monday, with chances for snow in the higher elevations also this system approaches moisture advection will raise precipitable water values to above normal across the region. The National Weather service says peak anomalies will be around 175 to 200 percent of normal looking possible Sunday afternoon and evening. As of right now, it seems as though that weather may be sticking around until at least Tuesday or Wednesday. Below normal temperatures can be expected through much of next week before rebounding late in the week. The shower activity has ended for the night and will not return until tomorrow afternoon over the southern mountains and adjacent expect a gorgeous day today and a great start to the weekend! GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Chances for rain and snow showers are in the forecast all day today. Today, the chances for snow showers are best before 4 p.m. with chances for rain afterwards. Expect cloudy skies with highs near fifty degrees. Tonight, chances of rain and snow showers occur before 3 a.m. with a slight chance of rain showers after the fact as well to really wake up the western slope with that petrichor smell tomorrow. Overnight temperatures are expected to be just below freezing in the low impacts with moderate snow amounts are expected over much of the Colorado High Country and northern Utah mountains over the next 24 to 36 hours. Another storm towards the end of the week will bring another round of much needed moisture to the region and could also disrupt travel plans. Some breezy conditions are also expected for today, with wind gusts up to 20 mph in certain areas of the Grand could be some temporary impacts across the lower elevations of SE Utah/SW Colorado this morning as the front pushes through and these bursts of heavier snow rates develop. Most of the activity will be across the southwest 2/3 of the County Watch Area this morning with the northern mountains and valleys not likely to see precipitation develop until this afternoon. As a result warmer temperatures are expected up North and dropped highs across the south for today. In fact some of the day`s high temperatures have probably already occurred in parts of the south unless there is a spike in temperatures just ahead of the front. Overall expecting this afternoon to be 15 to 20 degrees cooler than yesterday and end up well below normal in all but the far expect a much more active weather week as we head into this first week of March!
