Canada's Reece Howden wins ski cross World Cup gold in Sweden
Social Sharing Canadians came away with a pair of medals in the penultimate finals of the World Cup season on Saturday in Idre Fjäll, Sweden. Reece Howden, of Cultus Lake, B.C., won the men's big final to capture the gold medal. Italy's Simone Deromedis and Sweden's Erik Mobaerg won the silver and bronze medals, respectively. The gold was the sixth of the season for Howden, who is the overall season points leader with 938 points. Deromedis (905) is in second place, trailing by just 33 points. Social Sharing Canada's Courtney Hoffos claimed a silver medal in women's ski cross at the freestyle skiing world championships on Friday in St. Moritz, Switzerland. World Cup champion Fanny Smith of Switzerland won gold, while Germany's Daniela Maier took bronze. India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C., finished eighth. Hoffos, from Windermere, B.C., had three podium finishes on this season's World Cup tour, including a silver at the Canadian stop at Craigleith Ski Club earlier this month.
