Remains of missing boater from Truro found in N.S. lake
The remains of a man who disappeared after his boat capsized on Cousins Lake in April have been found. The RCMP responded to the lake in Devon, N.S., around 3:30 p.m. on April 10. A 53-year-old man swam to shore and called for help. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 58-year-old man from Truro, N.S., failed to make it to shore. 'An extensive search was conducted over several weeks, but they were unsuccessful in locating the missing boater,' said the RCMP in a news release Friday. 'On May 4, the man's loved ones attended the lake in Devon and located human remains that were then recovered by ground search and rescue (GSAR) and fire services.' Police say the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has now confirmed the remains are those of the missing boater. His death is not believed to be suspicious. 'The man's family, and the Nova Scotia RCMP, wishes to thank everyone involved, GSAR volunteers, fire services, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and Department of Natural Resources Air Services for their efforts in trying to locate the man,' said the RCMP. 'Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this difficult time.' The man's identity has not been released. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page

Remains found at lake northeast of Halifax confirmed to be missing boater
A body located last month at a lake northeast of Halifax has been confirmed to be a boater who went missing in April. RCMP received a report on April 10 about a capsized boat on Cousins Lake. Two men had been in the four-metre boat when it struck something in the water. A 53-year-old man swam to shore and called for help at 3:25 p.m., but a search failed to find the other boater, a 58-year-old man from Truro, RCMP say. RCMP say the man's loved ones went to the lake on May 4 and found human remains, which were later confirmed by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to be the missing boater. The man's death is not believed to be suspicious, police say.
