Tight-knit RV park community in Harriman rocked by fire
HARRIMAN, Tenn. (WATE) — Four campers destroyed in a fire Wednesday evening has left the Roane County community rallying behind those who have lost everything. No injuries have been reported and the cause is still unknown, but it has left several residents of the Caney Creek RV park displaced. 'There's only three campers that did not burn to the ground, and mine was one of them,' said Caney Creek resident Beth Ingle. Knoxville postal workers join nationwide protests over threat of privatization When the fires broke out, Ingle said she and other residents of the park watched across the river at Roane County Park as their homes were destroyed. 'We're like family down here. Most of these people are actually from out of state, and we see each other every day,' she said. 'We're involved in each other's lives. We cook out together. And now they don't have anything, literally nothing.' Ingle said she felt fortunate her home was spared, but felt devastated for her neighbors loss. Despite not sustaining damage she did say the electricity was out for her section of the park, and she too was displaced. 'We have to take care of our bodies' Doctor sets goal to take on Covenant Health Knoxville 5K 'You hear these stories of like, maybe a plane goes down and you were supposed to be on that plane but you weren't and your life was spared,' she said. 'That's not to that extent, but that could have been me too.' While firefighters fought the flames, Benny Braden took photos, portraying the severity of fire. 'Honestly, it was really tough. Everybody was trying to get everything they could pretty quick, trying to assess the scene, make sure there's no victims. Make sure there were no hazards, and you obviously have propane tanks and things like that,' said the Roane County fire photographer. ▶ See more top stories on While he captured what the firefighters did to put the fire out, he said he was grateful he could show the work that went into it. Despite losing four homes the community says they will be there for each other 'We're all just so deeply close to the lord and all have that connection and its all going to be okay,' said Ingle.
