Mounties are trying to determine the source of a pipe bomb that was found in Lloydminster on Thursday.
Police were called to the backyard of a home at 41 Street near 49 Avenue for a report of an object that looked like a bomb.
Officers cordoned off the area, and the Alberta RCMP explosive disposal unit dismantled the device, which was confirmed to be a pipe bomb.
Mounties say it's not known if this was an isolated incident or if there are other pipe bombs in the area.
'We understand that these situations can be stressful for members of the community and Albertans in general' said Cpl. Christopher Byford of the Lloydminster RCMP in a news release.
'We are hard at work investigating the issue and getting the answers the public needs in order to ensure their safety.'
Residents are asked to be vigilant, not to approach any suspicious objects, and to report their findings to Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400.
