Daughter of late Aslan star Christy Dignam on his final wish before he died

The daughter of late Aslan star Christy Dignam has revealed her famous father's final wish before he died. The Crazy World hitmaker died on June 23, 2023, following a ten-year battle with a rare blood disorder. Thousands turned out for his funeral at the time before the singer was cremated in a private ceremony. Now, Kiera Dignam reveals Christy's final wish to his family about what to do with his ashes after he was gone. She revealed: 'The thing with my dad was… he had a strange wit so before he died, he had said to mam 'I want to be scattered in every county in Ireland'. 'Mam said it to Darren (Kiera's husband) and even if he was just saying it to wind us up, we have tried to do that. We've gone to most of the places around the country. "There are still two or three counties left and if we couldn't make it to all of them, my uncle, who travels a lot for work, he's gone to a couple of places. I have a cousin as well that helped.' Some of Christy's ashes were also scattered in Lanzarote, where the singer loved to holiday with his family. 'We have a place in Lanzarote. In the last few years, because every year was kind of like 'this could be the last year with him', we would always book a holiday when he was well enough. We tried to make plenty of memories. 'After the funeral, myself, Darren, the kids and my mam went over to Lanzarote to scatter his ashes, and we went to a place like a harbour where we would've had photographs of the family – my dad had actually taken photographs two years previous. So we went to that place and scattered them there.' Kiera was speaking to the Irish Mirror ahead of the second memorial concert for her father this summer. Remembering Christy Dignam will take place at Vicar Street in Dublin on May 29, marking two years since the singer passed away following a long illness. Special guests on the night will include Tom Dunne, Brian McFadden and Mundy. Eric Lalor will host the event alongside comedian Enya Martin, with performances also expected from The 4 of Us, Steve Wall, and George Murphy. Kiera said that the concert will feature 'Christy Dignam songs, Aslan songs, a number of songs he liked and traditional Irish songs'. But she said this year's memorial concert will definitely be the last one. 'I think so. It was a once off last year – that was the plan. It was an idea thrown around and it was genuinely a one-off thing. 'But it ended up being an incredible night. The next day there were a lot of people online at the gig who were saying that it has to be an annual thing. 'But there is a lot in it. It's stressful. It's emotionally draining as well as physically draining. Although gigging is work for me, emotionally there is a lot in it. 'We're in Vicar Street and I would've been on that stage with my dad over the years. It's somewhere I associate with him. That can be emotionally draining but when you're there and you have all that love in the room, it is amazing. 'I don't want to nuke something. That wasn't what this was about... but then the interest we had… we said we will do it one more time. I think this is it.'
