CD Singles: what are the most wanted UK singles releases from the era of the high street?
Does anyone else remember the excitement of hearing something on the radio, then heading to the supermarket on pocket money day to pick up a CD single? Am I showing my age here quite badly? For a long time, when 'Spotify' was something you did with a Where's Wally book , our immediate access to songs was either a) taping it off the radio and praying the DJ wouldn't talk over the end, or b) picking up one of the many… many CD maxi-singles that gathered in music retail outlets and, eventually, supermarkets – much to the dismay of Art Brut . In the United Kingdom, a CD maxi-single was a music single on a Compact Disc containing more tracks than the standard two-track (A-side and B-side) CD single. It was essentially the CD equivalent of the 12-inch vinyl single, often offering more value or a more comprehensive experience of a single release. CD maxi-singles, like CD singles in general, were very popular in the UK throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s, forming a significant part of the music market and singles chart. They were typically released in standard 5-inch jewel cases, or often in slimline jewel cases. Sometimes, special packaging like digipaks or card sleeves was used, occasionally with space to house a second companion CD single for multi-part releases. It's the kind of CD that many charity shops across the United Kingdom still have hidden amongst albums people have donated; and some of them are, according to Discogs , very much still wanted by users of the marketplace. So, what CD singles are people looking for? We've picked the ones that have more than likely either been passed down through the annals of time to find themselves in a charity shop or, again, are stuffed into the far recesses of your car's glove compartment. 1 . Pulp - Common People (1995, Island Records, CID 613, UK) Jarvis Cocker's witty and poignant observational anthem, Common People is one of the defining songs of the Britpop era and a true masterpiece. This 1995 Island Records CD single (often the "Day version" sleeve) is a piece of British music legend. Its iconic status means it's perpetually in demand on Discogs and a very welcome charity shop discovery. 🔎 4617 wants | Getty/Discogs Photo Sales 2 . Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger (1996, Creation Records, CRESCD 221, UK) An epic singalong anthem from Oasis' (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, Don't Look Back In Anger is pure stadium rock brilliance. This 1996 Creation Records CD single is a cornerstone of Britpop. A true classic, it's a must-have for many music fans and frequently sought on Discogs, with copies regularly appearing in second-hand hunts. 🔎 4714 wants | Getty/Discogs Photo Sales 3 . Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc (2005, Parlophone, 7243 869882 2 5, UK) The Grammy-winning, instantly recognisable hit from Gorillaz' Demon Days album, Feel Good Inc is a modern classic with its laid-back groove and De La Soul feature. This 2005 Parlophone CD single is a key track of the 00s. Its widespread appeal means it's a common sight on Discogs wantlists and a fantastic find when hunting through charity shop CD racks. 🔎 4858 wants | Getty/Discogs Photo Sales 4 . I hope he's reading this and realises that. He's my brother but he's at arm's length until he apologises for what he's done." 2009 - Noel admits in an interview with Q that he 'doesn't like Liam', branding him "rude, arrogant, intimidating, and lazy". "He's the angriest man you'll ever meet," he added. "He's like a man with a fork in a world of soup.' Liam later retaliates and tells NME: 'It takes more than blood to be my brother. He needs to see somebody.' 2018 - Liam suggests a reunion for the 2018 World Cup on Twitter, writing: 'let's get the big O back together and stop f***ing about the drinks are on me'. When it fell on deaf ears, he added: "I'll take that as a NO then." 2019 - Noel speaks out after Liam sends 'threatening messages' to Anais after a comment made about then wife Sara McDonald. Liam Gallagher 'peaced things back together with Noel' for Oasis reunion tour despite bitter feud
Liam Gallagher was reportedly the one to 'peace things back together' with older brother Noel for the Oasis reunion tour - despite their years-long bitter fall out. Oasis sensationally split in 2009 after a backstage bust-up - devastating their loyal fan base. In the 14 years that have followed, a feud and bitter fighting has ensued with the brothers trading insults back and forth in interviews and social media. But this year, the pair are putting their differences aside and reuniting for a huge world tour, with dates booked across UK, America, South America and Asia in 2025. Despite their feud, sources have claimed in a new book the brothers 'still really love each other'. According to The Mirror, In The Fall And Rise Of Oasis by PJ Harrison, the author quotes an industry insider from Oasis music label Creation discussing their tour and Gallagher feud. Oasis sensationally split in 2009 after a backstage bust-up. In the 14 years that have followed, a feud and bitter fighting has ensued with the brothers trading insults back and forth in interviews and social media (pictured in 2008) She said: 'It doesn't matter what the wives or the girlfriends say or what anyone else says. 'You will never understand the dynamic of those two boys. Ultimately, you do still really love each other.' The insider also added that Liam was the one that made peace with Noel: 'He's a great one for making, you know, peace. He's the one that will make the peace and bring things back together with people.' In the past, Liam has said he made the first move. In a previous post on X when he was asked who called first him or Noel, Liam replied: 'I called him but don't tell anyone as I don't want folk thinking I'm a soft lad and stuffs keep it between me n you cheers x.' Harrison, who travelled on tour with them back in the day, also suggested that the band will continue to tour in 2026 and play major festivals if they can continue to get along. MailOnline has contacted Liam and Noel's representatives for comment, It follows the news that Liam and Noel have reportedly been 'given strict health warnings' ahead of their upcoming Oasis reunion tour. Long gone are the days of cigarettes, partying and alcohol as the brothers have now been given strict instructions to take care of their health ahead of their stadium gigs. According to new reports, Liam, 52, and Noel, 57, have allegedly gone through 'thorough' examinations and testing to get insurance for the concerts. Sources told The Mirror the level of scrutiny over the duo's wellbeing was 'like an astronaut going into space' thanks to the high value risk of the tour. Both of the musicians have received extensive advice and offers of any useful treatments and have been told to 'not over indulge' to make sure they are fit and well enough for all shows. 'It's going to be a lot different to the 90s – most rock and roll fun is banned!', a source told the publication.

Oasis reunion tour to feature Andy Bell as he confirms he's part of band line-up
The bassist is ideally suited to handle any unexpected consequences of Liam and Noel Gallagher being in close proximity for long spells having played with Oasis between 1999 and 2009 and Liam Gallagher's post-Oasis project Beady Eye. Andy Bell has confirmed he plans to rejoin Oasis for the band's long awaited reunion tour which will see them head to Scotland later this summer. The bassist is ideally suited to handle any unexpected consequences of Liam and Noel Gallagher being in close proximity for long spells having played with Oasis between 1999 and 2009 and Liam Gallagher's post-Oasis project Beady Eye. Bell, who was also a member of the Creation Records band Ride and Mantra of the Cosmos, has confirmed his involvement in the tour in a new interview. He told Austrian newspaper Oe24, 'I'm in and I'm really looking forward to it. We'll see each other on tour. Or rather, you'll see me. I'll hardly be able to see you in the audience.' Bell has long been rumoured to be a shoe in as bassist on the tour. He is expected to be joined by his Beady Eye bandmate and longtime collaborator Gem Archer, who played on his recent solo album Pinball Wanderer. Also said to be part of the live band are Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs on guitar and drummer Joey Waronker. Oasis have 41 dates booked for 2025, kicking off at stadiums around the UK and Ireland in July before moving across multiple continents. Support will come from Cast, Richard Ashcroft, Cage The Elephant and Ball Park Music. The band - led by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher - will play sold out shows at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9 and 12. 10 million people from over 100 countries attempted to snap up the tickets which sold out in record time. Yesterday, we told how the band's manager Alec McKinlay had ruled out new material by the band and also put to bed rumours on new dates being announced. Explaining how the team kept the news of a comeback tour under wraps last year, McKinlay said: 'The group of people who knew about it in advance was very limited. We were working with people we trusted.' He added: 'We'd obviously been planning it for a while and the moment when it went live was a little bit of a step into the unknown in terms of how big the reaction would be. When it all hit home, it was just phenomenal. The reaction was very much one of, 'Finally, some good news after all the nonsense that's been going on in the world.'' Rumours about new material from Oasis emerged last year, when Liam Gallagher took to X/Twitter to tell fans that the Manchester icons had 'already finished' a new album. He then took to social media again to fan the flames, claiming that he had listened to the new material Noel had written for the record and that he was 'blown away by it.' Alec – who is also the Ignition and Big Brother Recordings director – also shed light on whether fans can expect to see the band working on more material, but put a dampener on the hopes of more tour dates later down the line. 'This is very much the last time around, as Noel's made clear in the press,' he said. 'It's a chance for fans who haven't seen the band to see them, or at least for some of them to.' He added: 'No, there's no plan for any new music.'
