‘The Boys' Director Opens Up About the 'Terror' of Crafting the Series Finale
It's never fun to find out one of your favorite shows is entering its final season. Some fans would even argue that it's worse than a show you enjoy being cancelled abruptly.
However, if there's one thing that can make the situation even worse, it's a terrible series finale.
Tuning in for multiple seasons and every episode only for the series finale to fall completely flat will leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth. And for the director of the hit show The Boys, Eric Kripke, avoiding that potential outcome has left him just a bit stressed.
The Boys is currently filming its final season, as Kripke and company decided to stick with their initial plan and wrap up the series after Season 5. While there are a number of unanswered questions and topics fans are curious about, Kripke admitted the show's finale is what's left him in "terror."
Kripke sat down with Shawn Ryan of The Night Agent on Sony's Creator to Creator podcast and spoke about the series finale.
"I am in a fair amount of terror about a series finale," Kripke said. "You can count on one, maybe two hands, the truly great series finales…the graveyard is littered with terrible [series finales]…"
'You could have the greatest show for years, but if you stiff that ending, and that's what's sending everyone out in the parking lot, they go, 'Oh, maybe that show wasn't that good'"
Ryan mentioned Game of Thrones as one ending that left fans largely up in arms, while Kripke pointed out that Lost still gets plenty of feedback (and frustration) on its ending from fans to this day.
As The Boys director said in the sitdown, they're currently in the middle of filming Season 5.
