Jiminy! Cricket has new a new unlimited plan that includes 2 free phones (certain conditions apply)

AT&T subsidiary Cricket Wireless is offering a new pre-paid plan for new customers called the $40 Simply Unlimited Plan. This plan offers unlimited talk, text, and data for $40 per month for one line. Two people can sign up for the plan and pay only $65 per month. Even better, if you and someone else sign up for two lines, both of you will receive a Samsung Galaxy A15 5G phones for the low price of $0 although you'll have to pay $25 per line for activation inside the store. You'll need to port your current number over to Cricket to subscribe to this plan. The $40 Simply Unlimited Plan offers AT&T 's Nationwide 5G which uses the low-band 850MHz frequency. This will result in download data speeds in the range of 50Mbps-150Mbps and upload speeds in the range of 10Mbps-30Mbps. Keep in mind that this plan doesn't support Hotspot usage, Mexico and Canada usage, and there is no option to sign up for international service. Also, this plan does not deliver the faster 5G speeds available from AT&T 's mid-band 5G+ service. If two consumers sign up for the Simply Unlimited Plan, they each get a Samsung Galaxy A15 5G. | Image credit-Cricket Wireless If you decide to sign up for the $40 Simply Unlimited Plan, during periods of heavy network traffic, AT&T could temporarily throttle your data speed. We should also point out that video on this plan streams at standard definition. This means you should expect a video resolution of 480p and a maximum speed of 1.5 to 2 Mbps. Shailendra Gujarati, chief marketing officer at Cricket Wireless, said, "We're making it easier for customers to save more money. Our approach is simple: no hidden fees or gimmicks — just straightforward, affordable plans that promise reliable connectivity." The $40 Simply Unlimited Plan is available at local Authorized Retail stores or online. The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G that new customers will receive when two of them sign up for the $40 Simply Unlimited Plan comes with a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2340 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6100 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. On the back is a 50MP primary camera, a 5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The front-facing camera weighs in at 13MP. A 5000mAh battery keeps the lights on and Android 14 is pre-installed.

T-Mobile and Verizon customers thinking of leaving must choose carefully

If you are an AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon customer and thinking of switching providers, you should research your options before customers disgruntled with their providers and end up choosing a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). An MVNO is a company that doesn't have its own infrastructure and relies on network operators to provide connectivity services. Some popular MVNOs are owned by the Big 3, which is why you might want to avoid them. The acquisition of MVNOs by telecom companies is also making things harder for smaller MVNOs. For instance, MobileX, an MVNO that relies on Verizon , recently told Fierce Wireless that competition is intensifying because of consolidation in the prepaid market. The company gained 30,000 new subscribers in April but CEO Peter Adderton is finding it challenging to keep the momentum going as an independent April 2024, T-Mobile purchased Ka'ena, owner of MVNOs Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile. In 2021, Verizon scooped up TracFone. Before that, way back in 2014, AT&T bought Cricket means that in essence, many MVNOs are competing with powerful companies who bought these MVNOs. Mobile network operators can pour in more resources than smaller competitors, making it difficult for them to keep up. —Peter Adderton, MobileX CEO, May 2025 This is one of the reasons why public advocacy groups are often against the acquisition of companies by bigger competitors. It's believed that everyone ends up worse off except, of course, the company that buys a rival. Chiefly due to a string of price increases, customers are gravitating towards other options. This explains why Charter out did AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in Q1 in terms of customer growth. MobileX may not have T-Mobile and Verizon 's resources, but it has several tricks up its sleeve to attract customers. The most interesting of them all is perhaps its use of AI to gauge how much data a customer needs so they don't splurge on unlimited data. The company hasn't revealed how many customers it has but did say that the churn —number of customers lost — is 1 percent, which is well below the prepaid industry's average of 4 percent.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police are investigating a break-in at Cricket Wireless in Austintown. A front glass door was shattered when officers arrived around 3:20 a.m. Thursday, according to a police report. No one was found inside the Mahoning Avenue store, however. Sundae Scoop opens 2nd ice cream shop in Hampton Roads

Two scoops are better than one. Sundae Scoop, a veteran-owned ice cream shop in Virginia Beach, opened a second location, in Chesapeake's Las Gaviotas Shopping Center, near Tidewater Community College. Owners Philip and Sibs Harrell expanded their business to accommodate employees returning home from college. 'I wouldn't have had enough work for them at the Kempsville location,' Philip Harrell said. The Chesapeake store has a bigger kitchen. Currently, Harrell produces 120 gallons of ice cream per week, but he needs 400 gallons to keep up with demand. The creamery also plans to add new selections to its menu: ice cream cakes and bars. Customers can still find their favorite ice creams, such as salted caramel butter pecan, German chocolate cake and rum raisin. Harrell will make other cool flavors based on recommendations from the Chesapeake community. The new spot held a grand opening celebration on April 18 featuring free scoops, door games and a ribbon-cutting with city officials. The event and location were supported by a $5,000 small business grant from Cricket Wireless. Business returning to Conneaut building

CONNEAUT — Business has been returning to the building on 216 Main St. after it was vacated for two to three months. Businesses in the building were ordered to vacate Jan. 10, after discovery of roof damage and sagging showed possible dangers for building tenants Owned by Amayah Investors LLC, the building had four tenants: Cricket Wireless, Blackheart Tattoo, Community Counseling Center and a State Farm office. Roof sagging was first noticed by CCC, who alerted the Conneaut Fire Department and Ashtabula County Building Department to the damage. The damage likely came from snow accumulated over the Thanksgiving weekend snowstorm and winter. Conneaut City Manager Nick Sanford said the building's owner communicated well with the city when the issue was brought up. 'The owner has been extremely responsive, which is absolutely appreciated,' he said. County Building Department Commercial Building Official Thomas Congdon said the owner was given permission to shore up the building. Sanford said the building's owner went to Smolen Engineering, of Jefferson, 'to develop a plan to stabilize and rehabilitate damage from the November storm.' State Farm Insurance Agent Chris Brecht, who oversees the Main Street office, said he and his employees worked remotely for around three months. Brecht said in-person meetings were arranged with many older customers, who preferred them. State Farm returned to servicing customers at the building around the end of March and beginning of April, Brecht said. Customers are happy to see the State Farm running from its office again, he said. Brecht said his employees are generally happy with the return too. 'They're excited to be back and meeting customers face to face as well,' he said. Brecht said he has seen the tattoo parlor operating again at the building, but has not seen Cricket Wireless and CCC operating at the building. Blackheart Tattoo, CCC and Cricket Wireless could not be reached for comment.
