One week since inmates escaped OJC jail
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Seven days have passed since 10 Orleans Parish Jail inmates escaped. About 200 local, state and federal law enforcement officers are taking part in the manhunt and in the search for people who allegedly helped them. Another accused of helping Orleans Justice Center jailbreak inmates New Orleans Metropolitan Crime Commission President Rafael Goyeneche says those who are caught aiding the inmates are likely to face some serious penalties. 'You're talking about you know an aggravated escape; that's a felony. It's a serious felony, and the people that assisted or aid these people evade justice and evade apprehension, they're also committing felony offenses,' Goyeneche said. While plenty of arrests have already been made, the hunt is not over. In a release on Friday, New Orleans Police Department Director of Communications Officer Reese Harper stated that this remains a coordinated, multi-agency effort, and that they are leaving no stone unturned. However, Goyeneche says his biggest concern is that a lot of important police work may go untouched until the manhunt is over. Inmate accused of helping with Orleans Justice Center jailbreak 'The fact that 200 officers and agents have been working for seven days trying to find this means that their other responsibilities have suffered so this has been a setback,' Goyeneche said. However, he says that as more inmates are caught, fewer officers will be needed for the search. 'It doesn't mean that they're not looking. It means that now that the numbers are lower, they're looking for fewer people, it can be handled more efficiently without 200 people,' Goyeneche bans reporters from certain areas of building without escort Britney Spears given warning after smoking on LAX-bound flight: Reports Man turns himself in after mother found dead in home 'Top Gun' attraction flying into Las Vegas in 2028 One week since inmates escaped OJC jail Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Buraneer home of Matthew and Kelsea Doyle listed for sale for around $2.5m
The contemporary Burraneer home of Sutherland Shire couple, Matthew and Kelsea Doyle, has been listed for sale through Highland Property. Buyers have been advised it should fetch more than $2.5m. Matthew Doyle was a property developer who went to prison after trying to smuggle $85m worth of cocaine into Australia in 2019. The then father-of-one was sentenced in 2020 to a non-parole minimum of five years after he pleaded guilty to commercial drug supply and dealing with proceeds of crime. Kelsea Doyle, who was not involved in the plot, stood by her husband. He was released back in the community with an ankle monitoring bracelet last year, but photos taken last week by The Daily Telegraph suggested it appears that it is now off. After his release, the couple had a second child in December. Their 2019-built home is registered solely in Matthew Doyle's name. It had a caveat placed on its title in 2019 by the NSW Crime Commission which prevents any sale or mortgage refinancing by Doyle without the permission of authorities. It remains on title. Last week another caveat appeared on title described as arising from a loan agreement executed in April by the registered proprietor and the caveators, Jorden and Tallie-Bree Minos as the lenders. Tallie-Bree is the sister of publicist Kelsea Nagel Doyle, who had previously worked as a publicist for fashion brands including Ksubi, Josh Goot and Camilla and Marc. The Burraneer home replaced an older style brick home which Doyle bought in 2017 for $1.64m and then demolished. He created dual-occupancy homes costing $969,000, according to plans lodged by Couvaras Architect. Doyle had sold the other half of the duplex in 2018 for $2m. Doyle's prior projects in the shire included the Cronulla apartment complex, Tara Maree, and townhouses on Dudley Ave, Caringbah South.

Major update after dead baby had almost every bone in his body broken
The father of a newborn has been charged with manslaughter nearly two years after his baby died in hospital. The 26-year-old man brought the four-week-old boy to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, in NSW, in critical condition on July 27, 2023, police said. The baby had numerous, unexplained injuries, including broken bones across his body, and was transferred to Sydney Children's Hospital where he died three days later. The man, who is from Wagga Wagga, was identified on Friday by The Daily Telegraph as the father of the baby and two other children. Child Abuse detectives had been notified in July 2023 about the suspicious injuries and critical illness of the baby boy when he arrived at hospital. Strike Force Wighton was established to investigate and the man was arrested on Friday in Albury. 'The death of an infant is tragic,' Detective Inspector Peter Owen said. 'Where there is suspected inflicted injuries, (it) is another level that is abhorrent to people.' Asked why it had taken so long to make an arrest, Det. Insp. Owen said police 'weren't able to establish what actually happened to the child' during their interviews. 'We did receive some assistance from the Crime Commission, who held hearings into the matter,' he said. 'But we are here today at the time of arrest which is a real tribute to that Strike Force team.' Det. Insp. Owen said the 26-year-old man, who was not known to police, was visiting other children in Albury when he was arrested. There were also no intervention or protective orders in place and no history of domestic violence at the time of the baby's death. Friends of the boy's parents told the Daily Telegraph the pair were religious and described the lifetime of devastation they would face after the death of their son. '(They) have lost their little boy at only four weeks old. No words can describe the pain they are experiencing right now,' one friend said. The man was taken to Albury Police Station on Friday where he was charged with manslaughter before fronting local court. He was released on a $10,000 surety, ordered to hand over his passport, and has been told to report to police daily. The judge has banned him from contacting several witnesses in the case. He will next appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on July 9.

Man charged with manslaughter of four-week-old baby brought boy to hospital with multiple broken bones
A family member charged with manslaughter nearly two years after the 'abhorrent' death of a four-week-old baby has been granted bail. Police arrested a 26-year-old man on Friday morning over the July 2023 death of the boy in Wagga Wagga. The man, who police said was a family member, brought the baby to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital suffering a critical illness along with other injuries that were allegedly deliberately inflicted. Those injuries included multiple broken bones, police said. The infant died three days later at the Sydney Children's Hospital. The man was granted bail on a $10,000 surety after facing Albury local court charged with manslaughter on Friday. He is next due before Wagga Wagga local court in July. Detective Inspector Peter Owen said the death had profoundly impacted those in the southern NSW community. 'All of these matters, including this, deeply impact the people who are associated, whether they be teachers, health workers, police, the extended family and community members,' he told reporters on Friday. 'The death of an infant is tragic - where there are suspected inflicted injuries, it's another level that is abhorrent to people.' The man was arrested in Albury on the NSW-Victorian border and charged with domestic violence-related manslaughter. He was visiting other children when arrested, Det Insp Owen said. He was not adversely known to police before the incident. The investigation into the death involved assistance from the secretive NSW Crime Commission. 'It's coming up to two years of consistent, dedicated work from a small team of regional detectives,' Det Insp Owen said. 'The dedication and devotion to this job is an absolute credit to those detectives.' The baby is survived by two siblings, police said.
