Shocking moment driver mows down cyclist during Islington street brawl

A violent incident caught on camera in north London shows the shocking moment a cyclist is run over by a car in broad daylight following a heated confrontation involving weapons. Footage filmed in Islington shows two men squaring up to each other — one brandishing what appears to be a baseball bat, the other wearing a mask and reportedly wielding a knife. The man with the bat is knocked to the ground before the clip cuts to the masked man attempting to cycle away. Moments later, he is struck by the same man, now behind the wheel of a car. Today in Islington — London & UK Street News (@CrimeLdn) May 24, 2025 Police have since confirmed they were called at 11.37am on Saturday to reports of a group of people fighting on Holloway Road. Officers attended the scene and arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the incident. There were no reports of any injuries, the Met said. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing. A local councillor in Islington said: 'This kind of street violence is deeply concerning. We encourage the public to assist the police and ensure our streets remain safe.' This latest example of violence comes after another video showed a group of men with machetes throwing traffic cones and metal poles at each other in a vicious altercation outside a night club in Mayfair, North London. Four people were arrested and two sustained injures in the incident. These fights illustrate what some are calling a disturbing trend of aggressive and violent acts perpetrated across the capital, many involving dangerous and illegal weapons.

How to protect yourself from phone snatch thefts – and five steps to follow if your handset is stolen

Read on for tips on what to do if your phone gets snatched SNATCHED How to protect yourself from phone snatch thefts – and five steps to follow if your handset is stolen Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) PHONE 'snatch thefts' are soaring, with more than 1,000 stolen in London every week. Last year more than 70,000 handsets were taken in the capital, up 34 per cent on the previous year, according to a Freedom of Information request to the Metropolitan Police by comparison website 4 A thief on an electric bike spots a target using a mobile phone in central London Credit: Jam Press/@CrimeLdn 4 The thief approaches the target and grabs the device from the owner Credit: Jam Press/@CrimeLdn 4 The thief then escapes with the phone Credit: Jam Press/@CrimeLdn It is a similar picture around the UK. Official figures show personal thefts in England and Wales are up 22 per cent, with police recording 152,416 such offences last year, the highest since 2003. With many smartphones costing more than £1,000 to replace, ministers have pledged a crackdown. In the meantime, Laura Miller advises on how to find the right insurance to protect yourself. THERE are a few different options for cover — standalone gadget insurance, personal possessions cover as part of your home contents insurance, or as a benefit from a packaged bank account. Anna McEntee, insurance expert at comparethemarket, said: 'The best option will depend on how much coverage you're looking for outside of the home.' Always shop around among providers and comparison websites for the best deal. The price will vary, based on your phone. Make sure you check the excess for each policy before you choose one. GADGET INSURANCE THIS provides cover for a single item or a bundle of devices under one policy, including mobile phones. It generally covers the cost of repairing or replacing your devices if they are accidentally damaged, lost or stolen, either from your home or car, or while you are on the go. Five ways to cut your insurance costs Always read reviews before taking out insurance. Many policies include unauthorised data usage if your phone is stolen — as long as you report the theft promptly and contact your network provider to blacklist the stolen device and halt service. It usually costs £1.50 to £15 per month, depending on the level of cover. PACKAGED BANK ACCOUNT COVER IF you have three or more phones in a family, a packaged bank account could be the cheapest way to insure them. If you need to get travel and breakdown cover, it may be worth it, even if you just have one or two phones to cover. For example, the Virgin Money Club M account costs £12.50 a month and covers your gadgets and those of a relative living with you, for up to £2,000 a year. The Nationwide FlexPlus account costs £18 per month and covers all the family's smartphones for up to £2,000 each, including kids under 19, or those under 22 in full-time education. There are limits on how many times a year you can claim a phone. HOME CONTENTS INSURANCE YOU could add your smartphone to your home contents cover — but check that your policy includes gadgets outside your property. The excess is usually £100 to £300 per claim, so it might not be worth it if your phone is not expensive. Claiming on your home insurance could also push up the cost when it comes to renewing. 4 Phone 'snatch thefts' are soaring with more than 1,000 stolen in London per week Credit: Getty WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PHONE IS STOLEN REPORT your phone's theft to the police and mobile network. Your network provider can block your SIM to prevent other people making calls on your account. Insurance expert Alicia Hempsted, of finance website said: 'Try to get in touch with them within 24 hours — otherwise you may be liable to pay the full amount for any additional charges incurred.' Reporting a theft to the police will give you a crime reference number, and Anna McEntee adds: 'This will be essential for making an insurance claim. You should also contact your insurer as soon as possible to start the claims process.' The National Police Chiefs' Council recommends doing this:

ADVERTISEMENT After a video of the incident went viral, Hall claimed the drivers had spent 25 minutes outside his home in Newcastle-under-Lyme before he went outside and that one of them had threatened to knock him out. Shocking moment brawl erupts in the crowd at Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn as fan is floored by flurry of wild punches

Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn put on a show in one of the most highly-anticipated fighting in British boxing history on Saturday night - but the ring wasn't the only place that saw a flurry of punches thrown. Eubank Jr came out on top via unanimous decision in the bout, winning 116-112 on all three judges' scorecards as he fell to his knees before celebrating with his father, who made a shock appearance. There were 65,000 fans in attendance to watch history unfold, but a small section caught the eye as chaos ensued in the crowd in north London. At the floor seats inside the stadium, around a dozen fans were seen in a scuffle during the final undercard match-up between Anthony Yarde and Lyndon Arthur, which saw Yarde also win on points. An argument appeared to be taking place, before punches were suddenly thrown. Two men in particular were seen brawling, with one dropped to the floor as others tried to separate the fight. The fan who seemed to come out on top walked away after dropping the other, with others steaming in and more blows then exchanged, including again from the person who was dropped. A fight at the Chris eubank Jr v Nigel benn last night. — London & UK Street News (@CrimeLdn) April 27, 2025 A brawl erupted in the crowd during an undercard bout of Chris Eubank Jr versus Conor Benn The brawl was eventually split up as the two groups involved went their separate ways, before an ironic bell was heard to end the round of the real fight inside the ring. Some fans were seen climbing over chairs to get involved, as the situation threatened to spiral early on. A few fans appeared to throw punches before things escalated between two people specifically, which resulted in the man being dropped. In the ring, Yarde won via unanimous decision, coming out on top 115-113, 116-112, 116-112 on the three judges' scorecards. It was the third fight between the two, with Yarde winning 2-1 overall. It was perhaps closer than the scorecards suggested, but was a well-received final undercard bout before the main event. The main event also lived up to its billing, with Eubank Jr coming out on top 116-112 on all three scorecards. It was a bout that ebbed and flowed, with Eubank Jr ending his opponent's run of 23 wins three years on from when their rivalry first started and their original bout was scheduled before Benn's drugs test drama. Eubank Jr dropped down in weight, missing weight on the day before the fight and being fined nearly £400,000 because of it. He weighed in fine on the day of the fight. That didn't impact him in terms of the result, though, with the favourite coming out on top in all three judges' scorecards. Lee Every, Kieran McCann and Mark Bates all scored the bout 116-112 in Eubank Jr's favour.
