Two women admit stealing money and goods from shop in Donegal

Two Donegal woman have pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of money and goods from a shop in Co Donegal.
Patricia Sweeney (61) of Sessiagh View, Ballybofey and Bernadette McGahern (60) of Towns Park in Convoy, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court before Judge John Aylmer.
The pair are charged with the theft of an unknown amount of money and goods on a date unknown between January 1, 2019 and March 31, 2019 at Solo Stores, Sessiaghoneill, Ballybofey.
The charges are Contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Theft and Fraud Offences Act of 2001.
Both the accused spoke only to enter guilty pleas and details of the charges were not opened to the court.
Neither of the women have any previous convictions and a probation report on each of the defendants was requested.

Barrister for Sweeney, Mr Ciaran Elders said the case was an 'abomination' on his client's record and asked for her case to be adjourned to January 2026, with a mention possible in October.
Barrister for McGahern, Damien Crawford, BL, told the court an amount of compensation had been agreed and asked for the case to be put back to January, 2026.
He also asked for the case to be mentioned in October 2025 to allow for 'timely progress'.
Judge John Aylmer approved the requests and ordered probation reports for both women to include a suitability assessment for community service.
